Chapter 9 || 𝒩𝑒𝓌 𝒞𝒶𝓃𝒹𝓎 𝒮𝓉𝑜𝓇𝑒

"We should get going"

The walk to the Candy Store Cafe had been very awkward. For you and Ushijima anyway, your cousin Tendou seemed absolutely oblivious to the atmosphere surrounding you.
'That's the thing though, why is it awkward?' You thought mindlessly following the boys in while you spaced out.

Every time you looked at Ushijima or brushed arms while walking, every time you heard him chuckle at Tendou; your heart would beat so fast in your chest you'd think you had gone into cardiac arrest.

'Why do I feel this way. It makes me fee-'.
Your thoughts were cut off by a slender fingered hand waving in your face.

"(N/N), (N/N)~ are you there??" Tendou was trying to get your attention.
"Oh uh yes I'm... I'm here." You choked out.
You looked from Tendou to Ushijima who was frowning. Your cheeks began to burn and you knew you were going red from the embarrassment of zoning out... especially in front of him.

"Wow are you okay? You're going red!" Tendou fussed.
"I'm fine Satori." You smiled gently holding your hands up in mock defense.
He raised his brow at you suspiciously.
"Don't look at me like that! I'm fine really, what did you want?" You assured.
"Actually its what Miracle boy wants." Tendou jabbed a thumb at the giant.

Taking this as his que Ushijima spoke, "I just wanted to know what you wanted.. to eat" he said.
"Oh.. well I don't know I was so spaced out I guess I haven't actually looked." You chuckled scratching your cheek.
An awkward silence began to set in between the three of you until Tendou spoke.
"Hmm well I know what I want so why don't you two go look around the store and I'll buy my stuff now."

"You don't want to look around the store?" You asked.
"Meh, I know what I like and what I like is already at the counter." He replied.
"Well okay then.." you mumble turning to Ushijima instead.
He smiled at you and you returned the gesture.
"Where should we look first?" He asked.
Walking to stand closer to him you looked out around the store, in the back was a bunch of tubes that seemed to dispense M&Ms. In front of those was shelves stacked with sour lollies and in front of that a shelf covered in sweet themed plushies.

Excitement overtook you and you started to gently smack his arm while pointing to the back.
"There! Let's go to the M&M dispensers!" You exlaim now resting your hand on his forearm. Unbeknownst to you, your touch made him smile gently.

"If that's what you want." He said in his usual tone. You both walked to the back of the store and looked at the rules for the M&Ms. It was kind of like 7/11 Slurpies, just grab a jar and fill it with whatever colours you want. The price of the jar is dependent purely on the size of the jar.

To your suprise Ushijima made the first advance in choosing his M&Ms. And when you looked you couldn't help but giggle.
"Are they blue and yellow because you like volleyball or something pwaha!"
He squinted his eyes and slightly turned his head away, "Perhaps...."
At that you burst out laughing.

From afar Tendou stood observing while eating some Cookie Monster ice cream. It made him happy to see you both so happy together. 'Oh how good they would look together, how can I ever set them up. I've been trying my damn hardest...'. Eventually he zoned out and was only braught back to the present when you both came up to him with M&Ms and a plushy of a little cow holding ice cream.

"Sa.To.Ri~ guess what! Ushi got me this lil cow AND he payed for my M&Ms how sweet is that!?", You chimed happily.
Satori stared at Ushijima with the blanket expression ever and then back at you thinking of the perfect thing to say.
"Awe yeah that was really sweet of Ushi to get that for you cuz" he said putting emphasis on the Ushi part.

Ushijimas face became a dusted pink along with your own and you both looked away.
"Psh whatever its a cool nickname.." you trailed.
"Hey man I didn't say it wasn't." Satori threw his hands up in defence.
"We should probably get going back to your house, I'd like to play some games." Ushijima stated, both you and Tendou knowing full well what game he wanted to play.

Having said that there were no arguments to his statement and the three of you made your way home.
