Chapter 12 || New Feeling

'He's never been so gentle with me..ever..' I thought.

While I was waiting for Ushijima to come back I had drunk some of the water that was at my bedside and then snuggled into bed watching Reels on Instagram. I saved quite a few for the gang to make together even some I thought would be cool with the volleyball team.

Looking at the time I realised it was now already 0240 hours and I began to worry.
My nerves got to me and I messaged Ushijima.

I soon realised why he had left me on read, since I heard the front door open and his heavy footsteps coming up the stairs. Though I'm sure he was walking as quietly as he could.
'Heh he sounds like a lumbering badger'
I thought admiring how wholesome it was.

He quietly creaked open my door and peeped in. Seeing I was sat up waiting he walked over to his chair by my bedside.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
" Like I said, I'll fade away if I don't eat something soon" I fained being in distress playfully. One hand gently placed over my forehead the other gripping my shirt tightly. My eyes fluttered closed.

I peaked one eye open to look at Ushijima, at first I was going to pout that he wasn't smiling until I saw the glimmer of amusement in his eyes.
I smiled at him and let out a little giggle.
He smiled at that.
His smile.. for some reason made my heart flutter.
'Did he really just smile because I giggled?' I thought.
'There is no way!'
I had zoned out his face a blur until I realised he was talking to me and everything came back into focus.

"Hello? Are you ok??" He asked frowning.

I snapped out of the brain haze I had entered and nodded my head.
"Ah yes. I'm fine, sorry, I zoned out." I said.
"Well would you like the food? I hope you didn't actually mind waiting too much, I also grabbed some snacks."
He said showing me the contents of his shopping bag.

"Wooow you bought millions! I love them." I gaped in excitement. Millions are a European lollie, kind of like nerds but chewy. We don't rlly get them much but they're one of my favourite sweets.
"(Y/N) you're grinning so big I can barely see your face. I see you eyeing the sugar but eat something proper first."
He was looking at me so intensly, never breaking eye contact.

I don't know why, but this feels really intense. I'm in genuine shock at how worried he is about me.
Looking down I muttered a "fine.."
Opening the container I began to eat; Ushijima took a while but the food is still pretty warm.
As I ate more I looked up at him.

"Thanks Ushi" I beamed.

He smiled again.

"It's no problem, I wanted to after all."
I quickly wolved down the food I had and put the container on my beside table.
'I really appreciate all that he's done for me', I thought.
The whole time I had been eating Ushijima sat quietly on his phone. Conversing quietly when I spoke and checking in if I needed anything.

Right now he was on his phone reading something.
"Ushi.." I murmured.
He looked up and turned off his phone, all his attention on me.
His gaze was so intense it had my heart racing.
'Why though...?'

"Do you mind coming and sitting on my bed for a second. Just by my legs.."
I spoke.

He seemed a little taken a back, but none the less complied.
Before he could say or ask anything I threw my arms around him in a tight hug.
"I understand this is probably quite foward, but I wanted to hug you as a thank you for taking care of me. I really do appreciate it. And it means the world to me that you skipped training just to make sure I was okay.. you're a great friend Ushi." I announced.

For a moment I thought I may have been too much, since he just sat there like a stunned mullet. But soon enough he wrapped his arms around me too.
"I...I don't really hug people usually." He admitted.
"But I'm glad I've been able to help. I'll always be there if you need help." He spoke.I smiled again.

"Thank you"
