Dallas was currently speeding down the road, trying his hardest to get to Johnny. Dallas was never going to be able to live with himself if something happened to Johnny, he began to pray for his boyfriend's safety.
Once they had finally reached the house, they pulled in at the same time as Darry's truck. All the boys came out of their cars, Darry seemed a little confused at the behavior of the other greasers. "Woah Dally man, what's going on? Where have you been?"
"Where's Johnny?!" Dallas asks, slamming his car door.
"He came home with Steve about an hour ago!" Darry answers.
"Darry! Steve was the one who did it! Steve attacked Ponyboy!" Dallas yells.
"Steve?" Darry began to see red. "Steve did all of this?!"
"Yes! He-" Before Dallas could continue, they heard yelling come from inside the house. No, no, not again. Dallas and the other greasers darted up the stairs, they burst through the door, only to see Steve backed into a corner.
Johnny, Johnny was still alive, he had the upper hand. Johnny turned to look over his shoulder and instantly met Dally's eyes. "Dallas!" Johnny exclaimed.
"Oh Johnny," Dallas said, Johnny dropped the knife and Dallas dove forward, hugging him tightly.
Johnny began shaking and buried his face into Dally's chest, Dallas only squeezed him harder. He was so relieved, "It's okay, it's okay," Dallas whispers, rubbing his back. He pulled away and cupped Johnny's face, "Are you okay? Are you okay?" Traumatized, Johnny had tears running down his face, nodding frantically. "Come here, it's okay," this time, Johnny hugged him back, just as tight.
Darry stormed into the house, finally having enough. "What the hell is going on?!" Dallas kept his hand on the back of Johnny's head, holding him closely.
"Steve did all of this! They've been fucking on the side and Steve's been beating him up too! He did all of this! He's a liar!" Dallas hollers. All the boys were now staring at Steve, but he didn't explain fast enough.
Without a second thought, Darry launched forward and punched Steve in the face. Steve came crashing down to the ground before Darry pinned him down. "You're lucky I don't kill you right now, boy!" One of the greasers ran for the phone to call the police, Two-Bit and the other greaser were too busy kicking in Steve's ribs.
As much as Dallas wanted to choke Steve out and dig his grave, he couldn't. He couldn't, because Johnny was shaking in his arms, bawling his eyes out, just like Pony did the night before. Dallas was just as mortified as Johnny. Dallas leaned down and kissed Johnny's head, "Come on, let's wait outside, come on," Dallas whispers. He pulled Johnny outside, but kept him close, neither of them were ready to let go.
Johnny kept his head down, he couldn't stop reliving the past hour in his head. Dallas just sat there on the porch step, with his crying boyfriend beside him, waiting for the police. Dallas couldn't cry, he knew he wasn't supposed to, but he wanted to. Holy fuck, he wanted to cry like never before. He almost lost Ponyboy, and could've lost Johnny in the process, his mind and heart couldn't stop racing.
As sunset grew closer, the police came around, eventually dragging Steve out of the house. Dallas said nothing as they threw him in the back of the car, lord knows what was going to happen to him. Just more greaser trash behind bars.
It took the police finally driving off for Johnny to gather himself and his thoughts, but he remained silent. Darry and the boys eventually came out of the house, dried blood on the clothes of Two-Bit and the boys. Darry must have showered or cleaned up before leaving, he had his car keys in hand, along with an exhausted look on his face.
"You two just stay here, I'm gonna go spend the night with Ponyboy, he needs me," Darry explains, Dallas simply nods, staring into the distance.
It's unexpected, but Dallas and Johnny were both hugged from behind, tightly. Nobody said anything, but nobody needed to. This day was going to change everyone's lives moving forward, they're down another boy, but for even worse reasons.
Darry and the boys pull away, Two-Bit takes the boys home while Darry goes back to the hospital for his brothers. Once everyone is gone, Dallas stands up, and helps Johnny into the house. Johnny felt dirty, he never wanted to see Steve again, he went digging through Pony's drawers for clothes. He just wanted to sit in the shower for the rest of the night. Dallas took the hint that Johnny needed some space and some peace, so he left him alone.
Johnny locked himself in the bathroom, and took a lengthy shower, he almost didn't want to come out. He knew however that Dallas would eventually break down the door, so he came out, he scrubbed himself so hard his skin was hot and red. Having some of Darry's clothes, Dallas went into the shower and cleaned himself up, not taking nearly as long as Johnny.
When Dallas finally came out of the bathroom, he noticed most of the lights were off. He dried his hair and tossed the towel off to the side, he found Johnny laying in Ponyboy's bed. Dallas sighed and walked in, "Johnny, babe? You asleep already?" Dallas asks. Johnny makes no noise or motion to suggest otherwise, Dallas walks further into the room and joins him in bed. Johnny's back is still facing him, and Dallas leans down to kiss his ear. "I am so fucking glad, you are okay." Dallas whispers, assuming Johnny can't hear him, he continues. "I fucking love you so much Johnny," Dally's eyes began to water. "I can't imagine life without you." He says, he lays back down and holds Johnny as close as possible.
Dallas buries his face in the back of Johnny's neck, and practically cries himself to sleep, grateful for God and all the stars that Johnny wasn't hurt. He was okay, and he was here, with Dallas. Blinking away his tears, Johnny took a deep breath and shut his eyes tightly. I love you too Dallas.
