Ch. 4

I got in my car and drove away. All I could think about was what I was going to do to Matthew. I drive faster and arrived a few minutes later. I ran up to the door before I knocked Chloe's husband, James opened the door and closed it behind him. He saw me pull up.
"Listen Taylor."
"James move I need to talk to her."
"She's distraught right now. She didn't even want you finding out."
"Well I did and now I wanna know where the fuck he is."
"Taylor. You know I work for the police. I'm the one who got you out remember? And I can't let you go and beat the crap out of someone even if they deserve it. Just listen. The police have this ok? Trust me."
"You're....right. Let me just see her. I need to be with her." He sighed.
"Alright. Fine. Fine. Just follow me."
I followed him and headed up the stairs to Chloe's bedroom. James opened the door and I saw Chloe icing Sophie's face and saw Sophie crying. I got pissed even more.
"Soph...." She looked up and cried even more. I go to her and hug her. I hug her tight.
"It's ok Sophie. It's ok. Just...just tell me where he is."
"Tay. I'm sorry.....I ..... I... Didnt want you to do anything you'd regret. That's why I didn't tell you."
"Hey. Hey listen." I grab her and make her face me.
"Listen. This isn't your fault. It's his. That fucking asshole's. Not yours."
"Promise me you won't" I knew what she was talking about. I didn't say anything.
"Tay. I'm gonna go get some ice and let you two talk. Soph try not to move that much." Chloe said. She left and I look at the bruise.
"You know I have to do something babe. I can't just let him get away with it. I don't care if I get suspended I don't want anything bad happening to you."
She didn't say anything.
"Listen. I love you and I'll always protect you no matter what"
Chloe came back and treated her the bruise.
"I'm...gonna go check on Chrissy. James could you drop her home when Chloe's done? I ask. He nods. I go kiss Sophie and exit. Just before I leave, James stops me and gives me a look. I get in my car and head to the university's campus. I go into the cafeteria and see Matthew with his buddies. I get close to them and say
"Hey fucker. Wanna beat up my girlfriend and her friend? Huh? You think you're a tough guy?" I push him while saying it.
"Huh? You like hitting girls? Do you? Well I like hitting dudes who hit girls." I keep pushing him until he backs up to a wall.
"Hey. Fuck off Wender I didn't do shit! And even if I did hit her, you can't do shit because we all know what happens if you do." I make him flinch and some other students who were watching laughed.
"Watch your fucking back."
"You're probably still mad your dad left your mom for mine."
I was about to punch him when I heard
"Reynolds! Follow me. Now!" It was one of the supervisors.
"You're fucking lucky you're a daddy's boy." I said to him.
"Reynolds don't make me say it again."
I go to him. Once I get close to him he pulls me aside and says
"What do you think your doing? You can't just show up and start attacking other students."
"I can if he beats up my girlfriend and her friend."
"What do you mean?"
"Sophie? Sophie Jones. He punched her and left a bruise on her face and his buddies pushed Chrissy Geralds down while they were leaving the theatre."
"Do you have proof?" He asked.
"Yeah. The fucking bruise and I have Chrissy as a witness! Is that enough?"
"First, watch your mouth. Second I'll talk to him. Meanwhile you get to the apartment and stay out of trouble. You know what-"
"Will happen. I know. I know."
"Alright." I walk away. Angry and pissed off because I knew Matthew would get away with it.
"Hey! Hey. Dude!" Some girl started yelling towards me. I turn around.
"Yeah? Do I know you?"
"Yeah I played on the junior basketball team in Sacramento... We went to the teams dinner?"
"Oh...yeah...umm...Page?"
"Yeah. I'm glad you remembered." Page was a medium height, blonde with green eyes. She wasn't really tall but she was just tall enough to make the basketball team.
"Hey. What's up?" I said a little annoyed but didn't show it.
"Nothing much. I saw what happened in there. You ok?"
"Yeah just a little thing that happened between him and me v" It start to thunder and a few raindrops started falling.
"I'm gonna get some food. Need a ride?I'll drop you at the apartments assuming you live there too."
"Yeah sure. And yeah I do. I'm in hallway 8."
"Alright. Lets go." We get in my car and I start driving.
"So what happened there? I mean if you wanna talk about it."
"Don't worry it's fine. It's just that kid as his friends I was 'arguing with' kinda put there hands on my girlfriend and her friend. Left a mark on my her cheek and they shoved her friend down."
"Are you serious?" She replied
"Yeah... but his step-dad donates to the school so if anyone touches him they get suspended after a couple of chances."
"So you already got in trouble before didn't you?"
"Yeah but I told him to watch his back because no one hits my girl or any other girl for that matter."

It was silent for a few minutes and we got to the pizza shop.
"Are you sure you don't want anything? I'll buy."
"No I'm fine thanks." She answers.
"At least come with me. I don't wanna look like a loner." She laughs and agrees with me.
"Yeah can I get a medium pizza but half vegetarian and half mushroom, bbq chicken and extra cheese? Are you sure you don't want anything?"
"Haha yes I am."
"Cash or card?" The clerk said.
"Uhh debit." I put my card in and it says declined.
"Let me try again." It said it again.
"Here, I'll pay." Page said.
"No no I got it." I said again.
"Let me try again."
"Sir I can't let you do that again."
"Fine. Let me get cash from an ATM."
"Alright" The cashier said. I go to the ATM and said 'No Balance'
"Fuck"
'What?" Page asked.
"My 'dad' usually sends me money to help me through university but I guess someone little bitch cried to his daddy and now I don't have any money."
"Oh.. Just let me pay. You're driving me anyways. I owe you." I sigh.
"Fine but I'll pay you back."
"Ok but I won't accept it."
"Sure.."
She pays for the food and we head back to the apartment.
"You paid for the food so you have to eat with us now."
"Us?"
"Yeah my roommate my girlfriend and her friend and her roommate."
"It's not gonna be awkward is it?" She asked
"Not if you try and make it." We head to Sophie's room and I see all four of them on the couch.
"Hey babe. You feeling better? Hey guys." I go and kiss Sophie.
"Hey Tay. Yeah a little better."
"Did you bring it?" Josh asked.
"Yeah and I brought a guest. Everybody this is Page. We went to the same junior high and both played basketball."
"Hey guys." She said.
Janette and Josh both greeted her.
"Hi... Page.... umm Tay, can I talk to you in the kitchen. I need you to come help me get more ice and cups and drinks and shit." Sophie said. Chrissy quickly followed Sophie. I followed her. As I passed Josh he patted me on the back and whispered,
"Good luck."

"What the hell? Do you know who she is?" Sophie said angrily
"Yeah... I kinda told you that already. She used to go to my junior high." I said.
"No! She's Matthew's girlfriend! She was there when it happened!" Chrissy said. I got pissed. I head to the living room but Sophie holds me back.
"No Tay don't. Don't do it."
"IM NOT GONNA LET ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT GUY NEAR YOU OR ANYONE ELSE I CARE ABOUT. FUCK 'EM" Sophie and Chrissy stood silent. I turn around and see Page there.
"Uhh. I was just gonna see if you need help." She said innocently.
"You're dating that douche?" As I say that Janette and Josh come up behind her.
"What's going on?" Josh asked.
"I did. We broke up when I heard what he did to you two. I'm not like him I swear. That's why I talked to you in the parking lot. I wanted to know what happened. I'm not with him."
There was a pause.
"I think its time for you to leave Page." Josh said.
"I mean I like you and all but with the situation that's going on right now..."
"You're right. Listen Sophie and Chrissy and the rest of you. I'm sorry on behalf of Matt." She leave and Josh follows behind her.

"Chrissy you can stay with us for now. Just until something happens with Matt. You Janette and Sophie can stay in this room. Josh and I will be in our room if you three need anything."
"I wanna be with you tonight Tay." Sophie said.
"And I'm not leaving Sophie." Chrissy said.
"I mean... You guys only have two beds so I'll sleep here." Janette said.
"Yeah and I'll stay with Janette." Josh replied.
"Right.... That's fine." Sophie replied.
The three of us said goodnight and head to my apartment.
"Tay. I'm not that really tired. Can we stay up?"
"Yeah Soph. Whatever you want. What about you Chrissy?"
"I'm sleepy. I'll see in the mourning."
I knew she wasn't tired.
"Goodnight Chrissy" Sophie hugged her.
"Goodnight you two." She said.
"Goodnight Chrissy" I replied. I grab a small blanket for us two and sit down on the couch. Sophie and I curl up and put on the tv. I kissed her on the forehead and hugged her tight.
"Mean girls?" I ask. She quietly laughs and nods. A few minutes later we both fall asleep on the couch.
