FORTY - NINE

| CHAPTER FORTY - NINE |

Jun doesn't know why he's doing this.

He couldn't tell you any reason as to why he was standing in front of Kwon Soonyoung's house right now, his shaky hand in a fist as he prepared to knock.

He gives Soonyoung a few moments to answer the door. And in those moments, he finds himself thinking about things, about many things. He almost leaves then and there, regret just inches away from flowing through him.

But the door opens before he can second guess.

A blonde boy stood there, an unreadable expression on his face. His arm was leant on the door, and so was the side of his head as he looked at Jun.

He hummed, "Can I help you?"

Jun clears his throat, "Are you Kwon Soonyoung?"

"Who's asking?" He crosses his arms.

Jun pulls out his wallet, flipping it open. Soonyoung catches a glance of the badge, as well as the bold name under it, an immediate river of realization flooding throughout his system, and Jun furrows his brows at the sudden change of emotion.

"Why are you here?" Soonyoung sighs.

"I, well— I'm an officer, and I work just down at Seoul PD..." Jun scratches the back of his neck, lips turned into an awkward smile, "I was just wondering if you happened to know where The— I mean, Xu Minghao is?" He asks, "I know he's your cousin, so I assumed—"

"You just missed him." Soonyoung says, and Jun feels his stomach do a flip.

"He was here?" His brows raise.

Soonyoung nods, "Yeah, I woke up to any empty bed this morning.... He even left me a note." The blonde seemed sad, and Jun was close to feeling the same way.

"What did it say?" Jun doesn't know if he's being too nosy, too annoying, but he'll take his chances. He just needs to find Minghao.

Soonyoung takes a moment, "Hold on," Jun sees him disappear around a corner, on to soon return with a piece of what seemed to be notebook paper, "Here you go." He hands it to Jun, a frown on his face, and his arms cross again.

And Jun reads.

Hi Soonyoungie.

I don't know why I'm writing this letter, but I'm hoping to anyone that will listen this doesn't end up being a goodbye note.

But the universe seems to hate me, it's hated me all my life. So, I'd promise I'll be back... but that's up to the universe now.

I found the person I've been looking for, hyung.... the person I've been tracking down for the last 2 years of my life....

And I have a plan.

I won't stop until Seungcheol is dead, that's a promise. And I won't stop until my father is avenged and his death is finally recalled. I hope you know that, and I want you to remember our conversation last night, I want you to remember how you promised me that you'd be ready, for whatever you'd face the future.

If I don't come back, I want you to make me another promise, can you do that?

I want you to promise me you'll find everyone I ever worked with.... And I want you to promise me you'll apologize to them on my behalf.

Tell them I genuinely loved working with them.... and aside from me being a mole who only fed off their accessed information, I found I treasured each and every moment with them.

Find Wonwoo, and tell him I'm sorry for all I've done, and let him know if there were actually different worlds, different universes.... I'd make him one of my best friends in every single one.

Next, find Mingyu, and please tell him I'm sorry. Tell him I thought he was the nicest person to ever exist, and let him know how much I cherished his relationship with every single employee there. He was the greatest person, his smile shined.

After him, find Dino. He'll have an attitude when you first start speaking, but he'll soon tone down, and listen to what you have to say. Tell him I'm sorry, for all the things that I've caused, and tell him I loved his personality, and the way he wasn't afraid of anything. Tell him how much his words encouraged me, how much his pep talks helped. I appreciate him so much, just let him know that.

Find Joshua next, and its funny how I can tell already that he'll be a bit surprised I asked you to do this, as we never really got to flare our friendship more. But tell him this.... I really wanted to spend much more time with him, I genuinely wanted us to be best friends. Tell him I really wanted to introduce him to my other lifeline, his name was Jeonghan. Sadly, that wouldn't be possible now, but tell him that in another life, we'd definitely be the trio to die for.

I want you to find the chief now, his name is Boo Seungkwan. Please with all your heart try to apologize on my behalf, I've done the most awful things to that man, things he didn't deserve whatsoever. Ask him if he's okay, and tell him I'm so sorry for putting him in a situation he shouldn't be in, and tell him I'm even more sorry for shooting him half dead when he was just trying to tell me the truth. I love Seungkwan lots, I just want him to know. And tell him I mean it when I say I love him just as much as my father did.

Finally, find Jun. The chief calls him Junhui, but everyone around the station just knew him by Jun. He's Chinese, and we both share a love for Jess Benko. The thought makes me laugh, and I'll forever be grateful for how he helped me calm down with the simple tune. Tell him I'm sorry, and let him know how much he means to me. I don't know if what I feel for him would ever be reciprocated, but let him know I felt the flare. Let him know I liked him, and not in just a friendly way.

I want you to promise me you'll tell him that he meant the world to me, and even if we never got the chance to share a kiss, I still felt butterflies.

And I love you too, Soonyoung. Thank you so much for looking for me these past 2 years. You've worked so hard, and so I'll try to repay you.

I'll try my best to come back, even if I have to rot in prison when they catch me.
