Episode Eight: Wedding at the End of the World

Ivy sat in a chair, everyone's voices sounding like background noise as she could barely think in that moment. She could barely stand listening to Ben and Diego argue over an idea so stupid that she didn't want to argue with Diego at the moment. Her knee's were pulled to her chest, and she could feel her hands start to shake.

"Hey!" Five screamed, Ivy coming to her senses and looking up from the ground. "You guys done?" Ben and Diego turned away from each other, going to opposite sides of the room. "The universe is disappearing outside. So you can keep rearranging the deck chairs of the Titanic if it makes you feel better. But the fact remains that we are too late."

"Five, come on," Luther said, waving him off.

"It's over, Luther. We failed," he said, glaring at him. Ivy pushed out of the chair, turning and walking down the hall. Five sighed, rubbing his head. "Okay, my girlfriend's just watched herself die, so I'm going to yell at you all for the next minute and then go talk to her. So if any of you piss me off, then you're the one that has to go do it. Okay?" They all nodded at him. "Okay. How about we take a step back? Look at the big picture here. Most of us have spent the last 28 days trying to stop the world from ending. What exactly have we accomplished?"

"Well... we made some friends along the way," Luther said, motioning to Sloane.

"Incorrect! Luther, you're top of the list right now to go talk to Ivy," Five said, and he sighed. "You know what we've done? Nothing.  We made things worse every single time."

"Amen to that," Allison breathed out.

"Look, when I went to the Commission, I had a conversation with my 100-year-old self. And my last words were, 'Don't save the world,'" Five told them all.

"'Don't save the world'?" Viktor asked.

"'Don't save the world,'" Five nodded. It was silent, all of them taking it in for a moment.

"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," Diego spoke up.

"Diego, now it's you," Five said, turning to face him as he rolled his eyes.

"Is it?" Luther asked. "Well, whatever we're doing's not working. All we ever do is save the world for a day, pat ourselves on the back, and then everything goes to shit again."

"Yeah, maybe we're the problem," Viktor said quietly.

     "Oh, yeah. Us," Allison scoffed.

"Allison," Five said, turning to look at her.

"Oh, come on. For that?" she asked, and he nodded.

"So, wait. Your big plan is no plan?" Lila asked, narrowing her eyes at him.

"Exactly. Conscientious objection," Five said with a slight nod. "Why the hell not? We've tried everything else." He took a deep breath, looking around. "Look, maybe this is just what the universe needs. I say, embrace the apocalypse. See what's on the other side."

"What if it's... nothing?" Sloane asked, sitting up against Luther.

"Then it's been nice knowing you all," Five said, giving them all weak smiles. "Whatever's on your bucket list, I recommend you do that now." He turned and went to go follow after Ivy when Luther stood.

"Well, on that... super happy note, we've, um... Oh, what the hell," Luther laughed, looking down at Sloane as they both stood. "Okay. We've, uh, got a little announcement to make."
