Solange dug into the ice cream jar, her eyes fixating on Steven who'd been talking to Shayla just on the front porch, the girl had been watching the conversating and as he bent down to kiss her she flicked the light on, surprising them-Isabella looked her up and down, quietly passing her with a towel in hand, the two still hadn't spoken to each other even though time had passed, just longing glances and scoffs, Lange jumped once the front door opened and rushed into the kitchen."Solange, did you get the clothes I left for you upstairs?" Susannah asked, sitting next to the Conklin woman who'd been typing away, she left a series of gift bags filled with clothes Solange would've wanted last year, they were pretty and similar to her actual taste, Steven closed the front door, watching the headlights pull out of the driveway "yup, what's the occasion?" she responded.
"It's not one, I just felt like you needed some real clothes sweetie" the Blonde peered over her eighth bathing suit top and shorts pairing this week, Lange dug into the cookies and cream, shoving a spoon full in her mouth "I agree, and you need to throw away those flip flops, they're broken" Laurel added.
"My flip-flops make me who I am, without these I die" Solange struck a pose, sticking out her sandal-covered foot as Steven entered the kitchen, kicking his shoes off, once the two made eye contact it felt similar to the night before, tense, "Shayla said hi" he spoke, directing his words towards his mother.
"Tell her it's okay to come in next time."
"Right..." Steven nodded, turning to the counter where Solange silently stood "you free?" he asked her, she nodded, and the boy looked over at the dining table where Laurel and Susannah sat then looked towards the stairs. Both moms exchanged faces, being shocked that the two even interacted.
"Since when is that a thing?" Susannah asked her friend once they left the room, Laurel shrugged, still staring at her computer screen, typing away "should we be letting them go upstairs alone?" Susannah added.
"Nah, Steven has a girlfriend, remember?"
His bedroom door shut and she looked around, throughout the years when they weren't visiting she'd only been in there twice-to look for his phone and to help the cleaning lady get the door open, other than that she had no reason to be in the closed area until now that was, he took off his jacket, setting it down, "stop being awkward" Steven said, laughing "I'm not."
"Yea you are, you can breath relax" he continued, plopping down on his bed, Solange rolled her eyes while sitting down next to him, just holding her ice cream, eating it, "what did you wanna talk about?" she got to the point.
He shook his head, turning to her, "last night we were both drunk" Steven began, she already knew where this was gonna go, he'd say it was a mistake and that they should forget about it because he was obviously madly in love with his girlfriend "so we should just leave it at that."
Ding, ding, ding.
"I'm not gonna tell Shayla if that's what you're worried about, it was a pity kiss, life goes on" Solange second-guessed herself, her lips turning into a straight line, she watched his expression change, like she wasn't going to agree with him "it wasn't a pity kiss Solange, I don't pity you" Stevens eyebrows furrowed.
"I just-" he sighed "I just don't have time for this, I'm leaving next year and you have two more years of high school, I feel like we'd be better off as friends" Steven insisted, she rolled her eyes, getting up from the spot she sat in, a smile growing on her face "cool."
She learned to detach from certain emotions, after the first man she ever loved never showed up and made empty promises almost her entire life it was easy "cool? cmon Solange.."
She opened his bedroom door, revealing a puzzled Conrad, his eyebrows raised, studying the two, Steven immediately let go of her wrist "goodnight" Solange mumbled, slamming her door once she entered the room.
⁂
"come party" was what Angela drunkenly sent to her, it said 'sent by Siri' directly under it which let her know all she needed to, the girl jumped out of her bed, looking through the curtains-cars parked in front of the Andersens' house and music paired with lights blared, Solange opened the door, seeing all the room doors shut as she quickly put on a pair of looser jeans and light blue bathing suit top, this was growth.
Her curls sat on her shoulder, being fuller than before, she slipped on white air-forces and quietly roamed throughout the sleeping house, she could hear Belly playing 'enough for you' on repeat, she contemplated knocking on the door and checking up on her friend but tonight she chose getting wasted. Solange turned around to a creak on the floor, nothing was there but when she turned back around a shadowy figure stood at the bottom of the stairs causing her to scream.
"Shut up! it's me!" Jeremiah rushed up the stairs, silencing her voice, she pushed past him, continuing down the stairs "wait where are you going?" he asked.
Solange rolled her eyes, huffing, "I'm going to a party next door, I'm pretty sure Nova will be there too," she spitefully spoke, Jeremiah narrowed his eyes, hearing the jealousy in her voice, he smirked, following behind her "uh, who's that?" Jere questioned her.
"I- never mind, goodnight."
He followed behind her once again earning a glare "I'm going with you, I'm bored so" he smiled. wrapping an arm around her shoulders and forcing her out of the door.
