"U up?" Steven texted.

Solange had already been up, typing and deleting what she thought about sending to her father, the girl walked towards the window, seeing Steven sitting on the lawn beds, the spot they sat at on the fourth of July, she didn't reply, instead, she grabbed a jacket, slid on her flip flops and rushed out of her room door.

She liked Jeremiah, he didn't have a girlfriend, he gave her attention, Jere didn't kiss her then exactly a day later friend zone her and he didn't send her 'U up?' texts, yet at least, Lange opened the glass door, heading in his direction, it was quiet, only the sound of waves washing over below at the beach. The two teens locked eyes, neither speaking.

Solange sighed, "stop texting me Steven" she muttered, feeling the atmosphere shift, he had no longer been the one in control, she was, Lange didn't really want him to stop, she wanted him to keep trying, to choose her "is that really what you want?" he asked.

"I don't wanna be your fucking friend Steven, you can't be friends with someone you kissed that's not how it works, you don't get to text me and then go be with your girlfriend every day, I'm not a side bitch" Solange confessed, she liked him, he didn't feel the same, he turned to her. "Okay? and I never said you were, just because I said we would be better off as friends doesn't mean that I don't like you more than a friend, this is what I mean you need to grow up you're being immature."

Ouch. His words stung, Solange hadn't felt as if she was 'immature' actually, she felt like at times she was the most mature other than Conrad in certain situations "if I'm so 'child like' then why did you kiss me in the first place?" Lange had no longer been shouting, her head hung low, staring at the concrete below her. Steven took a deep breath, unsure of how to respond "you know what, delete my number, go ask Shayla if she's up, or better yet Taylor."

Steven stood up, stopping her from walking "that's not what you want, you wouldn't have come in the first place if that was true" he assured her, peering down at her lips, he wouldn't make that mistake again, Steven took a step back, Solange nodded "goodnight."

Solanges' hand reached out, knocking on the next door neighbors front door, the sound of shattered glasses filled her ears as Angela stood there, awkwardly smiling, it looked as if she'd been crying "Solange, hey!" the ginger sniffled, she glanced at her uneasy stature, wondering what the sound from just a moment ago was "hi...did you see a yellow phone case? it has a picture of a baby and an older woman in it?"

The phone case meant a lot to her, not because of it in general but due to the picture that was engraved in it, Morgan after she just had her, they were in the hospital, her father also being in the picture "no, no, um" Angie froze, watching her father hurry out of the house, his hands being cut up "but you can come look for it, ignore the glass I dropped a bowl" she lied.

Lange nodded, following her to the backyard, she had a chance to look around at the house before, she saw what looked like enough glass for three broken bowls, Marvin cleaning it up, and who she guessed to be her mother crying as she walked towards the back of the house "you know I could always come back and-"

"No, it's fine, it's fine really" Angela repeated herself, trying to hold back tears, sure, getting one of the closest memories she has with her mother back was important but Solange couldn't just leave her like this, "look, why don't you and Marvin come to my house for a little? no one's home but Conrad, you guys can stay as long as you want" Lange insisted.

She knew the feeling of being alone after something heartbreaking would happen, living with people but still feeling alone, that was what had happened to her during the winter, the beginning of summer, she felt unwanted and alone all year round' Jeremiah and Conrad getting attention from girls at school, making new friends, Susannah got quieter, was worried about Adam more, Ezra just not picking up the phone anymore, it was lonely.
