Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
Oh, but don't you let themYou just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there

Chapter 2
"Eew, Sam. Your clothes are so ugly, why don't you actually try in the morning?" Veronica insulted me the next day at school. We were at our lockers talking before our next class.
"How many times do I have to tell you, you need a pair of skinny's?" she continued and I just shrugged in response. Personally, I liked what I was wearing. I had on a gray sweatshirt that was way to big for me, regular, non-skinny jeans that had a hole in the left knee and old, dark blue converse on. This outfit was comfortable. I didn't want to be wearing jeans that cut of my blood circulation or shirts that hardly covered my chest.
"I don't like skinny jeans." I said. "They're way too... skinny." She was about to say something else when Monica Evans, a blonde wannabee walked up to us, or more like Veronica.
"Hey Ronnie!" she squealed so high that my ears were about to bleed. There was no need for the squealing.
"Hey Monica!" Veronica replied and they hugged. That is so cliche. Who hugs these days? "Are those new skinny's?" Veronica asked pointing to the jeans that Monica was wearing.
"Yes! I got them from Charlotte Rouse yesterday at the mall," she said jumping up and down.
"You went to the mall yesterday and you didn't invite me?" Veronica asked aggravated. Really? It's just the mall. Nothing special, you can go by yourself.
Monica's face fell. "Oops. I guess I forgot to text you that we were going." This made Veronica even more angry. "Who did you go with?" she asked.
"Haley, Ashley, and Elizabeth," she said.
"Well, if I'm not important enough to be invited to the mall than I guess that I'm not really your friend," Veronica said turning her back to Monica.
"I'm so, so sorry. I just completely forgot. I promise that next time I'll invite you," Monica pleaded for forgiveness. But Veronica still didn't say anything.
"I'll get you a whole new outfit."
As soon as Monica said that, Veronica turned around and smiled. "Okay. I love you again," she said, then they went into another squealing fest.
After a while they stopped squealing and Monica left. I silently thanked God.
"Hey Veronica, can I ask you something?" I asked her.
"Uh huh, sure,"sh replied.
"Do you think I should try out for the talent show?" I asked. I had wanted to ask her all day but I couldn't find a right time to do it and this was the best time I could think of.
"You?" she asked skeptically. That wasn't the kind of reaction I was hoping for.
"Yes," I said.
"Umm," she said. Then she put both of her hands on my shoulders, looked me in the eyes and said, "Sam, let me tell you a little something about high school. How do I put this?" she asked herself. "You aren't the most socially... connected person in the world. So if you try out and you lose, which you probably would, then you would get picked on even more. Now do you want that honey?"
