Chapter 21
We finished practice in no time. We finally got all the moves down and we were ready for the next cut. Unfortunately, Brandon couldn't make it. He had stayed home from school sick and he still wasn't feeling well enough to come.
Kendra didn't come either, but I wasn't surprised-even though she didn't let anyone know. I'd been thinking about her and Seth a lot lately. Why have they stopped talking to me? What was Seth talking about in the cafeteria.
So many questions, but so little answers.
But maybe our time spent together for our Social Studies projects would bring us back together. If not, then I was going on a serious spy mission to find out what's going on.
Later, when I was home just lounging around, I received a text from Kendra saying that her and Seth were already at the library waiting for me so we could finish the project. When I got it, i jumped out of my bed. I was only in sweats and a cami since I always change into house clothes when I get home. In a rush, I put on a shirt over the cami and speeded to the library, thankfully, not getting pulled over.
When I arrived, Seth and Kendra were already there, as promised.
"Thanks for telling me ahead of time," I said sarcastically to the both of them. But they just shrugged. I rolled my eyes, but I sat down.
"So we're almost done so this probably won't take long. It's getting late-" Kendra was interrupted by Marci May. Yep, this is the same library.
"Stay as long as you want, as it says on the sign, this is an all-night library," she said.
At this, I glanced at Seth to find that he was also looking at me. We both quickly looked away, as apparently , we weren't supposed to be associating with each other. Although I never got the memo. I looked at Kendra to see if she had caught this exchange. she did but only had a weird expression on her face. she didn't ask any questions.
I looked away from her and looked at Marci May. What I saw didn't please me, she had an evil smirk on her face and a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Uh-oh. What was she planning to do?
"So Seth, what are you doing here?" She asked and pulled up a chair and sat down beside him.
So far, I'm not seeing what she's doing.
"We have a project," he answered her.
"Oh," she said and stuck her head up. "What teacher gave you this project?"
Seth looked around, confused as to why she was asking only him all those questions. I honestly didn't know what she was doing either.
"Our Social Studies teacher, Ms. Gold," he answered.
Marci smiled.
An evil smile.
"Our social studies teacher?" She asked, that smile still on her face. "Last time I checked, people from different schools have different Social Studies teachers." She crossed her arms and looked him up and down.
Oh. I get it now.
For a few seconds, Seth looked paralyzed. Then he regained his composure. "Oh!" About that. You see..." As he said this, Marci gave him a look. "Yeah, you're right we lied," he said, totally giving up.
"We lied?" I said shocked. I know that we both lied but he didn't have to drag me down with him. Plus I already cleared everything up with Marci.
"Yes we," he said. "You were the one who started lying."
