Chapter 19

I decided to call Kendra. I wanted to know what was wrong with her and why she had said "I'm so sorry," to me. What, exactly, had she done wrong? I picked my phone up and dialed her number. I already knew it by heary.

"Your call has been fowarded to an automatic voice message system," the robotic lady said. It didn't even ring once. Was her phone off or something? I tried again, but it did the same thing.

"Uggg!" I said out loud. "What's her problem?!" Bored, I picked up a book and started to read it it.

It was the best book that I've ever read in my life. I finished it within an hour and I was screaming at the book the whole time I was reading it. My mom came in to check on me a couple of times. Now she thinks I'm crazy.

The only bad thing about it was that it ended on a cliffhanger. The biggest cliffhanger I've ever read in my life. I needed to get the second book at this moment or I would die. I slipped on my old Chucks and ran down the stairs. I grabbed my keys then ran to my car.

"Mom, I'm going to the library!" I called as I left the house. Then I opened my car and drove all the way to the library, going a little over the speed limit. But not too much. Now, I know what you're thinking: What kind of library is open at night? On a Saturday?"

Well, this one is. It's an 'all-nighter' library. It's my favorite library  in this whole town and the whole world. Actually, it's the only one I go to. I've never not found the book I needed in that place, which is saying something considering how small this place looks.

I walked up to the information desk to see my favorite lady. Her name was Marci Gaines but I called her by Marci May; a name that I made for her when I was younger. She even had a pet name for me.

"Hi Marci May," I said at the same time someone behind me said, "What up Mrs. G!" But i wish it was just 'someone.'  I wish it was someone I didn't know, a voice I didn't recognize, a face I didn't recognize.

"Hey Seth, Hey Sammie!" The old lady said with a big smile on her face. Sammie was that name that I had previously mentioned. I had never hated that name more, until this moment. I even thought it was cute. I can just imagine how this would affect me. Seth would tell Gwen about the pet name and they would laugh about it as they made out on the same couch that Seth and I had watched TV on. and laughed our butts off on. Then, at school, she would call me 'Stinky Sammie' for the rest of my high school life. I would be ruined. Even though I'm already one of the biggest social outcasts.

"Y'all, here together?" Marci May asked in her southern drawl, a smirk evident on her face, Like she knew something I didn't

"No," we said in unison. We made her suspicious. We said it too fast and with too much force.

"Well, you should be. You two would make the cutest couple. and your names both start with S's! now how cute is that?" she said, still smirking.

I don't think it would be cute at all. So, I decided to lie.
