soobin
"there is no way that i'm letting kang fuckboy taehyun anywhere near my sister." yeonjun said to his best friend. soobin had just been trying to forget the way tae had brushed yeon's hair out of her face. how she had looked at him like he was her whole world. he didn't want to talk about it any longer, but he knew it would be the only thing on jun's mind.
"you can't really keep him away from her. she's too stubborn." he found himself with a smile on his face when he thought of her adamantly insisting that yeonjun didn't control her. soobin quickly wiped the smile off of his face when he saw yeonjun looking at him questioningly.
"look, there he is. that little asshole. he just wants to sleep with her." yeonjun turned his attention to doyeon's locker, not far from jun's and soobin's lockers. soobin watched with concerned interest as taehyun walked up to doyeon, his signature smile set on his face. he saw dye turn toward him, talking to him about god knows what.
"he invited her to his party. personally." he informed jun. yeonjun didn't take his eyes off of doyeon, but his jaw clenched and his eyes hardened even more.
"no fucking way am i letting her go to that party."
soobin kept staring at doyeon. he had always thought that she was pretty. with her long, thick, straight hair that reached her chest and her big brown eyes always accentuated by her long eyelashes and her lips always turned in a smile. today, she looked especially pretty. she was wearing an cream coloured sweater and dark grey jeans. soobin had always seen her as a sister, but lately he's found himself drawn to her contagious laugh and her innate stubbornness. he swallowed those thought and turned his attention back to yeonjun.
"you know you can't keep her from it. but we'll watch out for her. you know i'll do anything to protect her." soobin said. yeonjun looked at him questioningly again, but he had nothing to say.
"she's your sister. she's... like my little sister." he explained. yeonjun looked relieved.
"thanks, dude. listen, you have the next class with her right? pre-calculus? can you talk to her?"
"yeah, man. i'll try." soobin was nervous. for no reason. he talked to doyeon all of the time. but, for reasons he could not explain, he was practically shaking when he walked into math class. they didn't have assigned seating, and it was only the second day of school, so it was acceptable to sit next to doyeon.
"hey, yeon." he said, feigning confidence.
"hey, soobin. what's up?" she asked. she was looking at him with wonder, and, not for the first time, he felt his heart beat faster.
"yeonjun-"
"yeonjun wants you to talk to me about tae. of course. because you're his little messenger." she said with a roll of her eyes. soobin pretended not to be stung. he pasted on a confident smirk.
"i'm not his 'little messenger', gorgeous. i just care about you." he said. he didn't realise the nickname until she pointed it out.
"did you just call me gorgeous? and admit that you care about me? aw, is little soob in love with me?" doyeon asked, taking over the confident smirk. soobin inhaled slightly, but didn't let it show. this was a game of chicken. and he wasn't about to lose. he pretended like he didn't love when she called him soob. he pretended like he wasn't freaking out because her insinuation of him loving her wasn't seeming too far off right now.
"did you just call me soob?" he asked. her gaze didn't waver. she didn't blush. soobin loved that about her. he hated when she fawned all over tae, cheeks pink and trying to hide her face.
"please, you know you love it."
"actually, it kinda reminds of when you were four and you always followed me around. you were so annoying back then. your cheeks were all chubby and you were always running around with some kind of mud to dirt on you." he said lovingly. he meant for it to come out teasingly; he didn't prepare for it to come out like he was recounting a fond memory with his favourite girl. which, he supposed, was exactly what was happening.
