soobin
soobin didn't want to get out of bed that saturday after doyeon and taehyun fought.
he felt discouraged and depressed and angry at himself for feeling that way. one girl shouldn't affect him that much. but he guessed it was the absence of someone who he had loved and appreciated since she was born.
he missed her as a friend and as a person, not just as a romantic interest.
he decided that he needed to stay strong and keep his mind off of her, so he got up to go to the gym.
all the way there and all the way through his cardio and strength training, he thought about why he was in love with doyeon. he knew she was beautiful and kind and funny, but he began to wonder about the little things.
when doyeon was starting school for the very first time, she was terrified. soobin had never seen her as anything other than brave. so when he turned into the brave, older friend, he felt empowered but also strange. back then, and even now, he loved her bravery. her ability to face anything that came her way was so inspiring to him, even though he'd never admit it.
when she made the high school varsity soccer team her freshman year, she was incredibly proud. she used to walk around her house with a huge smile on her face. her favourite sweatshirt was still her "girl's soccer" sweatshirt that she got two years ago. soobin loved not just her athleticism, but the unabashed way she carried herself. she never understood how much she deserved, so every time she realised her self worth, it was the most incredible thing to him. he loved when she was proud of herself.
and when she started attracting attention at school for her killer good looks and lovely personality, soobin was a mix between jealous and proud. on one hand, he was envious that other people were stealing her attention from him. she had always had many friends, but as she grew up, people began truly seeing how amazing she was. and that brought soobin a lot of pride. he had watched her grow up. he had seen her at her worst mentally and her best mentally. he loved her at both times and every time in between.
that's when he knew he had loved her all along.
he had pushed it down, pushed it away for the sake of his best friend and his heart.
and he knew he had to grow up.
and tell her.
he raced home, anxiety and fear pushing him away but hope and love pulling him forward.
when he pulled up to his house and walked over toward the kim house, he paused when he saw a car he didn't know in the driveway. he was immediately confused.
he peeked in the window to see if they were actually home and was shocked when he saw who he did.
he stormed into the living room, fuming.
the second kim eunwoo left all those years ago, soobin began hating him.
not only did he leave soobin's best friend by himself, but he left his little sister without a mom and a role model she could find in her older brother.
so as he punched the life out of him and berated him with insults and told him exactly what he thought about him, he didn't even feel bad.
"soob! stop!" he heard doyeon shout at him.
"think about what he did to you, yeon. how can you forgive him so easily?"
"soobin..." eunwoo began, but soobin cut him off.
"i'm not talking to you, asshole. i'm talking to doyeon." he turned to her.
"i was there when he told you he was leaving. i saw you keep it together while he explained it to you. i saw you fall apart after. i held you as you sobbed and hit me because you were so angry at him, but you couldn't talk to him about it." soobin pointed at eunwoo.
