Sunlight peaked through the drawn curtains, casting a soft glow on my ring and the peaceful face of the love of my life that gifted it to me. He seemed to have noticed, as a smile spread across his face and his eyes fluttered open.
"Good morning, fiancé~" I hummed.
Gene let out an enormous yawn. "Morning~" He massaged his neck. "I hope the neighbors didn't hear us last night."
I bit the inside of my bottom lip. So much for my pure waking sentiments. "I hope not, given our next door neighbor is your brother and everyone else is a friend of ours."
He frowned. "Maybe F/n and her wife have the better idea. Live away from people." He grabbed his phone off his nightstand and furrowed his brows when he clicked it on.
"What's up?" I said.
"First of all, it isn't morning, it's 12 PM. Second of all, what are you doing home? You should be at work!"
I narrowed my eyes at him. "No I don't, it's— OH MY IRENE I SWITCHED WITH GARROTH!"
Gene sighed as I dashed out of bed, nearly tripping over my feet trying to get ready. I was running out of the bathroom after taking care of basic hygiene and getting dressed, when Gene shouted for me to make sure to eat something before I left.
"THERE'S NO TIME! ALSO, I'M TAKING THE CAR, I'D RATHER NOT WALK!"
"I NEED THE—"
The garage door slammed shut behind me. Oh no, I wonder what Gene was gonna say... Too bad the door closed. Definitely the door's fault. I started up Gene's car that he had gotten as a birthday gift to himself and partially from his mom and uncle. It came in handy when we had to make the long drive to F/n and Sydney's wedding the following June, and we needed one anyway with Sasha and Zenix gone. Speaking of F/n and Sydney's wedding... What I'd give to be rich! Everything about their wedding was perfect. The food, the venue, their outfits, MY MAID OF HONOR DRESS!! While it was expected for F/n to ask me to fill such a role, I didn't expect her to PAY FOR MY DRESS AND MAKEUP! Although I love my sister, it's only natural I have F/n be my maid of honor in return. Plus, it's a best friend and number one hypeman perk. Oh my Irene I have to tell so many people that I'm engaged!!
Thoughts bounced around my head like a pinball machine, and by the time they finally hit a stop, I was at the maid café. It was an extremely short drive, but my mind of course has the habit of going two hundred miles per hour, way over the speed limit. Upon exiting the car, I closed the door with my right hand and locked it...with my left. I stared down at my ring. CRAP, EVERYONE ELSE IS GONNA FIND OUT BEFORE F/N OR MY FAMILY!!
"Heyyyy, Ms. Two-hours-late, do you plan on coming in? Aph is glaring daggers at you from the register." Laurance appeared before me, causing my shoulders to jump.
"Oh uh ummm..." I peeled my eyes from my ring, but it was too late.
Laurance lifted my hand up and examined it before looking at me with brows raised. "Girrrllllll!! It's about time! Congrats!" He brought me into an unwarranted hug.
"Th-Thanks!" I stammered. Well, I might as well talk about it now. "I would expect people to think it's too soon... He and I have only been dating for a year, after all."
He grinned. "Nah, since you turned me down, it makes sense to want to get married sooner rather than later. Even I have to admit that he's out of my league..."
"Woah, do you have feelings for my fiancé?"
"Irene, no! He's so not my type." He glanced back at the maid café. "We...should probably head inside. Hopefully the news of your engagement distracts Aph from you being late."
