"Are you sure you're in the right state of mind to attend this? I'm sure Tony would understand." Pepper tries to persuade but I refuse.
Turns out, I'm a very lucky being. JARVIS had said major concussion, coma or death bit I managed to survive with a minor concussion. And a very red bruise in my forehead. But nothing a little makeup can't fix.
I smooth out the edge of the blue mid length dress I was wearing. I let out a breath and turned to Pepper.
"I'm perfectly fine. Even JARVIS agrees." I said placing my hands in her shoulder.
"Except for the concussion and bruise in your forehead, you are fine miss." JARVIS adds and I nod.
Pepper lets out a sigh.
"Alright let's go. He should be downstairs already, Rhodey said he was already outside." Pepper said opening the door.
The noise from downstairs immediately floods the room and I thanked God for soundproof walls.
Pepper and I walked into the mess of a party in shock. Dad was wearing the Iron Man suit, not the suit Pepper and I picked out for him and he was staggering all over the stage.
I could feel the tears prick my eyes. All the loud cheering and noise become mere background noises. The only thing that kept ringing in my mind was he promised.
"Lisa- "
I hurriedly pushed past her heading outside. I bump into someone and I almost loose my balance. I rub my forehead. This day is the worst. Their hands come to help me, and I wrap my arms around him. I rarely seek physical affection from people other than dad and Pepper, so I could understand when he stiffened for a few seconds before stroking my hair.
"Hey Pepper." He greets.
"I’m going to get some air. Lisa, honey. "She said.
"I'm fine. I just really needed this." I said wiping my tears. "Yeah, thank God for waterproof makeup right?" I said as I collected the tissue she handed out to me.
"What’s wrong?" Rhodey asks and Pepper sighs before we all head inside.
"I don’t know what to do." I heard Pepper say all over the loud music. It has gotten worse. Dad was holding a bottle, barely able to stand. He trips on his own feet.
"That’s it, I’m making…."
"No, no, no. Don’t call anyone." I said holding him back.
"Lisa. This is ridiculous. I just stuck my neck out for this guy." Rhodey says pointing his hands in dad's direction.
"I know. I know. I get it. I’m gonna handle it, okay Just let me handle it." Pepper intervenes.
"Handle it. Or I’m gonna have to." Rhodey says as Pepper walks over to the stage.
"You know, the question I get asked most often is, “Tony, how do you go to the bathroom in the suit?” Just like that." Dad says and I almost died. Pepper walks up to him collecting the microphone from him flashing the crowd a very large fake smile.
"Does this guy know how to throw a party or what?" Pepper asks and the crowd cheers.
"I love you." Dad says.
"Unbelievable! Thank you so much. Tony, we all thank you so much for such a wonderful night. And we’re gonna say good night now, and thank you all for coming." Pepper says and the crowd mumbled in disagreement.
I make my way towards the stage, trying to help.
"No, no, no, we can’t … Wait, wait, wait. We didn’t have the cake. We didn’t blow out the candles." Dad protest and I scoff. There is no fucking cake.
