A half-moon passed and Cracklecoat was still grieving, as was Blazefang. Cursedfire comforted both of them and told them how brave he was in the battle. They thank him for it and Cursedfire could still tell they hurt. Emberstar had made Burnwing his deputy, which didn't surprise any cat. After all, Burnwing was a very strong and loyal warrior. Halfpelt had made friends with some of the clan, the others were still suspicious of her. Although Bonfire really enjoyed her company, Flaremist didn't like the fact that she had to share a den with a Moonclan cat.

"Cursedfire!" The gray warrior looked up, seeing Burnwing standing by Emberstar's den. Instantly, Cursedfire's heart dropped.

Cursedfire ran over, walking inside. Cursedfire felt his whole world collapse as he saw his father's body lying in his nest. Hethermoth sat over him, tears in her eyes. Smokecloud sighed, pushing his herbs to the side. Cursedfire walked over to his leader and father, looking down at him.

"Cursedfire." Emberstar rasped, coughing.

"Yes, Emberstar?" Cursedfire choked out.

"Thank you...for being my son and such a good warrior. I wish I would get to see your kits, I know they'll be as brave and strong as you. Just promise me something." Emberstar's eyes were dull.

Cursedfire licked his father's ear. "Anything."

"Promise me you won't let your hatred for Tigerstar or your curse take control of you." Emberstar coughed, his eyes still on Cursedfire.

"I promise." Cursedfire put his nose to Emberstar's shoulder.

Cursedfire could feel Emberstar relax and he backed away. Burnwing walked up to Emberstar next. Cursedfire couldn't hear what he said because his head was hazy. Flamepaw, Inferno, Patchfoot, Ashblade, and Emberstar. All gone in the blink of an eye. Cursedfire looked over to his father as he saw his clanmates bow their heads. Emberstar's flank rose one more time before stopping.
