(Once again written before Cadence was in the picture)
It had been a few weeks after grom and Aris and Goose were acting very awkward around each other. It was pretty obvious that they both liked each other, but since grom they hadn't done any pda or even went on a date. Most days they'd just stare at each other from afar and blush if they were ever caught by the other. Aris is usually much more confident when it comes to these things, but with Goose they found that their nerves were always wrecked and they were left with a queasy feeling because of the butterflies in their stomach. Aris was also scared they weren't enough for Goose, being stood up had really taken a hit at their confidence. Goose was smart, kind, driven, and just so cool to Aris, how could they possibly be enough for that. They had also realized that Goose was often very busy, and didn't want to be the one to add more to her load.
So for those weeks Aris was just happy to be friends and to be getting closer to Goose. It wasn't until a fateful Tuesday that Goose had grabbed Aris' hand on the way to class that Aris had realized that maybe Goose wanted more than just hopeless staring in class. That day Aris had finally built up enough guts to ask Goose on a date.
Aris was zoned out most of lunch, and wasn't speaking until they had decided it was time to ask Goose out.
"Hey Goose?"
"Yeah? What's up Aris?" Goose had turned around from talking to Ollie about whatever they had to talk about. The others had also started paying attention to Aris since this was the first time they had spoken all lunch. This made Aris bright red, Goose's attention was enough to make them blush, but now that everyone was paying attention it made it all the more difficult to ask the question.
"U-Uh..." fading out and going into a muttering state Aris quickly spurted, "Would you like to go on a date with me?"
"Huh? What did you say Aris?" While Goose was oblivious to what they said and didn't connect the dots with their blush the others had smug looks on their faces realizing Aris was trying to ask her out. Aris sat up and took a deep breath before looking at Goose in the eyes.
"Would you like to go on a date?" This time it was crystal clear, and not only was Aris a flustered mess, but Goose was too. It only took a few seconds for Goose to respond with a very happy, "I would love to." Aris' eyes lit up with relief and excitement.
"Don't worry about planning anything! I got it all under control, just wear something comfy! I'll pick you up at 5?"
"5 it is!" Goose gave Aris a soft smile, loving how enthusiastic Aris was right then. With that the bell rang and everyone headed off to class, not without giving Aris a few nudges and some teasing words. "Took you long enough, I thought you guys would've gone on a date right after grom" Ro said teasingly. "I'd have to agree with that." Ollie said with a chuckle walking with Aris down to the healing track classroom. All of class Aris was thinking about the perfect first date and what they needed to prepare before picking Goose up. They already knew the perfect spot. It was a place they went a lot, it was secluded in a very nice place in the forest and it had a great view of the town. They went there frequently as a place to have some peace and quiet after a bad day. No matter the time or the day it was beautiful, but it was the most beautiful during sunset. Aris was planning on getting there right before the sunset, so they could set up and already be chilling while they watched the sunset together, pretty romantic right. They knew they would need a picnic basket and an assortment of foods, preferably Goose's favorites, which they knew a few due to their absurd amount of observing after grom. One of those foods being griffin eggs. They would also need to make sure they packed some blankets in case it gets cold.
The bell to get out of school had rang and snapped Aris out of their thoughts. Aris frowned, realizing they hadn't paid attention the entire lesson and most likely was gonna have to ask Ollie for help. Aris had quickly said goodbye to their friends who had been on the steps outside of the school and ran home to get ready. Their friends were very amused. "Well we know who's excited for this date, didn't even say bye to us." Zee had laughed and took a quick picture of Aris dashing away as they found it funny that Aris was so consumed with this date that they had forgotten they could just fly home with their palisman.
It was 4:30 and Aris had gotten all the picnic things ready and was fixing up their collar, had to look at least a little sharp. Waving bye to their parents, Aris secured the picnic basket and the bag holding the blankets onto their staff and headed over to Goose's house. It only took about 25 minutes to fly there, but Aris thought that it was better to be early. Hopping off their staff they headed to the door and rang the doorbell. The one who opened the door was an older woman, definitely not Goose. She had a disappointing look to say the least and a cigarette in one hand. "Goose said something about going out with somebody." The lady said, disgust laced in her tone. "Goose!? You're friend is here, hurry it up! I don't want to look at their face anymore than I have to." Aris was scared and quite angry, what type of mom is this, what a bitch. It wasn't long until Goose came down the stairs, and all Aris could do was stare. Wowza, she's beautiful. "Hey Aris, you look nice." Goose smiled and tucked a hair behind her ear. The two were as red as the bard coven sigil. "Not as beautiful as you." Aris said mouth still slightly agape with awe. Aris held out their hand to Goose, "Ready to go?" Goose took hold of Aris' hand and nodded. The two headed out, Aris wanting to get Goose away to peacefulness as soon as possible. The two got on Aris' staff and they flew off to the desired location.
When they got there, Aris had told Goose that they could set up themself and that she could sit back and relax. Aris wanted this to be the most relaxing and chill date ever, in hopes to relieve Goose of whatever might be stressing them out for a few hours. After they had finished setting up, they sat down with Goose on the blanket, and they both started digging into the food. "This place is beautiful and I love it, but why this place instead of a cafe or restaurant?" Goose had inquired looking at Aris. "Well, it's a place I know well, and it's nice and peaceful. No loud sounds or interruptions." Aris looked towards Goose. "I thought we could both use an escape from the stresses of school and life." "Well you're right about that." Goose agreed while turning to look at the sky, which followed with a gasp. "The sunset from here is beautiful!" Goose exclaimed, and Aris smiled knowing their plan proved successful. "I'm glad you like it, it's another reason I chose this place." They sat there and watched the sunset with a comfortable silence between the two.
The rest of their time at the picnic spot was filled with laughter and small talk. Aris swore that they hadn't been this happy in quite a long time. When it was time to pack up and get back home Goose had insisted on helping pack up, which Aris accepted as they were pretty tired now. Once they got back to Goose's manor Aris walked Goose up to the door. Before Goose had opened the door Aris spoke up. "I had a great time, songbird!" They both paused, surprised and flustered. "W-What did you just call me?" Aris started to freak out. "Ah! I'm sorry if you don't like it I won't call you it again!" Their eyes were looking everywhere but Goose. "No! No! I.. I like the name." Goose placed a hand on Aris' shoulder for reassurance. Aris looked up, finally making eye contact with Goose. "Oh... alright. Then sleep well songbird." Aris smiled and left a kiss on Goose's hand. To their surprise was returned with a kiss on the cheek from Goose, who then waved goodbye and headed inside with a, "You too rosebud."
