Nancy and Robin walked through the park side by side. Nancy wasn't sure if she was just imagining it but it seemed like Robin's hand kept drifting over hers and Robin was purposely walking closer than necessary to Nancy.
Their ice cream cones were almost completely melted.
"We're going to have to find a garbage can soon for these cones" smirked Nancy
"What? Are you crazy? Eat the cone, Nance, that's the best part" Robin insisted
Nancy giggled and Robin said, "Your laugh is my favorite sound"
Nancy slowed her walk a bit, she didn't even know how to respond to Robin
Robin worried, "Was that okay to say? I'm sorry if that was weird. I just don't think you get told enough how amazing you are"
Nancy shook her head, "No, it wasn't weird at all, I really appreciate it. Robin, all you do is make me happy"
"Really? Even at the library? I felt like I was annoying the crap out of you that day" Robin said
Nancy murmured, "I wasn't annoyed at you, Robin. I know I probably did come across that way but I was just shutting off a lot of my emotions"
Robin asked, worriedly, "What kinds of emotions, Nance? Can we talk about it?"
For the first time Nancy actually did want to. She couldn't hold inside her feelings anymore
Nancy nodded, "Yeah that'd be nice"
Robin offered, "Here, I'll find somewhere nicer we can go talk. There's this part of this park that's my very favorite"
Nancy smiled, "I'd love to see it" she jumped over some twigs, following Robin through the forest in a part that very possibly was not part of the trail. It was hard to tell because even the actual trail itself had lots overgrown moss and plants.
After what felt like a half hour of walking, with Robin telling Nancy entertaining stories along the way, the girls were at the part of the park that Robin had been leading them to.
Pushing away a few pine branches that were covering the area almost like a curtain gave way to the girls seeing the breath-taking scenery.
It was a beautiful clearing of dandelions that overlooked cliff leading down to a river and a waterfall. The river was full of wildlife: geese, ducks, squirrels and deer.
But the small clearing that was surrounded by the pine branch curtains was cozy like a little hidden nook.
The sun was setting over the horizon and it's orange peachy rays flooded over everything giving the area a warm feel.
Robin sat on a fallen log and patted a spot besides her, "So, pretty cool huh Nancy?"
"Oh my gosh, are you kidding? This is gorgeous" Nancy said in awe
Robin replied, softly, "I'm glad you like it"
Nancy took in a deep breath of the fresh air and as she was Robin asked, "So, what was it that you were saying before?"
Bringing her back to the conversation from before so suddenly made Nancy's stomach drop with dread. Admitting she liked Steve and Johnathon was never this scary. Maybe because it didn't feel like this did either. The feelings she felt for Robin were growing stronger everyday. Nancy could easily go on and on listing things she loved about Robin.
"Robin, you're my favorite person to be around. You make me happy when everything else in my life is falling to shreds, you have the brightest smile and the happiest energy. You make my days so much brighter and...oh gosh do I sound like a Hallmark card right now?" as Nancy stopped talking for a second she could hear just how loud her heart was beating
