Nancy tentatively made her upstairs. She tried to be quiet about it but she knew her mom would hear her footsteps up the creaking old staircase.

"Mom?" she asked quietly

She saw her mom and surprisingly Mike at the table. Mike sighed, "I'll leave you two be" as he got up to go up to his room

"Come here, Nancy" Mrs. Wheeler said, motioning her daughter towards the living room. They sat down on the sofa.

Everything felt like a blur. But not the kind of blur where she felt helplessly in her feelings with Robin and sharing kisses breathless. No this wasn't a good kind...she couldn't bear to hear what here mom would say

"Mom, can you please just get it over with? Whatever it is you're going to say? Please?"

Mrs. Wheeler sighed, "Well I'm certainly not happy that's for sure. You went behind my back"

Nancy looked down at her shoes, "I don't know what to say" she mumbled

"But Nancy..." her mom continued, "I've done things too. I've had...hidden relationships and it's not fair to expect you to be perfect when I'm not either"

Nancy looked up at her, hopefully

"This doesn't mean you're not in trouble though. There will be consequences for sneaking around"

Of course there would be. She had seen that coming, it wasn't often that Nancy wasn't being her usual studious self but when she wasn't it seems her mom always had to know about it.

"I understand. I'm sorry. But umm...it's not cause Robin's a girl right?" Nancy asked, her heart racing

"Oh sweetie no, no it's not that at all" she said, giving her daughter a hug

Nancy whimpered, "I just was scared to tell people, I never even considered that I could like girls until I met Robin"

"You're my daughter and you never have to feel afraid to tell me anything. Now, I'm not going to lie and say I'm overjoyed about it because this will bring a lot of hardships your way but I want to be here for you in anyway I can"

"You have no idea how much that means to me" Nancy smiled, wiping a tear

"Does this mean you're gonna bring Robin to the dance tomorrow night?" Mike called from the other room

Nancy widened her eyes. She had no idea Mike was eavesdropping from the other room, "Mike... I swear"

"What? Just asking" said Mike

"I didn't know a dance was coming, oh how lovely!" beamed Mrs. Wheeler, clapping her hands together.

"Yeah neither did I" Nancy said between gritted teeth

Mike leaned on the doorframe casually, "Well you should let her know"

"If she'll even talk to me again. Not everyone has amazing parents like us. I don't know if Robin's mom will ever let me see her again and I'm terrified" fretted Nancy

Mike shrugged, "Why let her have any say? You should go to her, Nancy. But that's just my brotherly advice. Any more and there will be a small fee, tax not included"

Nancy rolled her eyes, "Oh shut up, Mike"

The yappy dog from before ended up jumping on Nancy's lap

"Okay who is this? And why is it here?" asked Nancy as the dog started gnawing on her hair

"That's Brioche, our new dog! El got him for me, isn't that sweet?" replied Mike

The dog panted in Nancy's face, looking up at her with beady eyes and terrible breath
