Summer of '76

Party in full swing

After O'Bannion drove away me and Mitch started laughing again and high-fived each other. "So, I'm assuming you two may have had something to do with that?" Don said, coming out of the Emporium. "You fucking know it." I had the biggest smile on my face. "It was Mitch's idea." I added. "Well, good job you two. I'm proud." Don smiled. "Is benny still in there?" I asked. Don nodded. I turned to Mitch, "Well, I'm going to ride with Benny to get the keg and to the Moon Tower. I'm sure you'll ride with Woods and Pink there. But, I'll probably see you there later." I gave Mitch a fist bump, "That was a very clever idea." "Yeah, thanks. Bye." Mitch walked over to Pink, Woods, and Don. I walked into the Emporium, looking for Benny. I spotted him still laying pool. I'm not very surprised. "So, are you going to play pool all night or are you actually going to hangout with me and go to the Moon Tower?" I said jokingly. I jumped up and sat on the next pool table, where Benny had his beer and took a sip from it again. "Yeah, I'm going to hang out with you sweetheart. Me and Mel are just gonna finish this game and then we can leave to get the keg and head to the Moon Tower. But, from what I heard from outside, it sounds like someone got back at O'Bannion out there. Would you happen to know anything about that?" Benny turned to me and rest his head on his pool sticking, waiting for Mel to finish his turn. "No. I don't know about the two gallons of paint that got dumped on O'Bannion." I said sarcastically, smiling. "You guys just hurry up, I want a beer." I added, taking a cig out of my purse and lighting it. "Just drink the rest of mine there. I'm sure you were probably going to drink it anyway." Benny said, taking his shot. "I was not going to drink it." I said picking up the cup. Both Benny and Mel looked at me, knowing I was lying. "Okay, whatever. Maybe I was going to drink it anyway." I said taking a sip. "Yeah, we know." They both said. I lighting kicked Benny  in the butt. "Jerk." I whispered. "I heard that." Benny said taking another shot. I rolled my eyes and patiently waited for them to finish their game. When Benny and Mel finally finished their game we headed out to Benny's truck. Pink, Woods, Don and Mitch were leaning on the wall outside. When we got out to the parking lot, Benny put his arm around my shoulder. I held onto his hand that was on my right shoulder. "Would you two just fuck already!" Don yelled out. "Will you just shut the fuck up Don!" I yelled back, flicking him off. Benny chuckled. We got to Benny's truck, I sat in the middle between Benny and Mel. As we left the parking lot, heading to get the keg, Benny rested his hand on my thigh. I looked down and smiled to myself. Then I turned on the radio. As we were heading to the Moon Tower, Woods was driving next to us. Him and Benny were yelling at each other, but i couldn't really hear what they were saying. Then him and Benny both sped up and raced to the Moon Tower. I held onto Mel's arm when Benny sped up. "You know Benny, I wasn't really prepared for a nascar race." I said, when we got to the Moon Tower. "Neither was I, babe." Benny said, putting the truck in park. Some people were already there, waiting for the keg. Woods, Benny, and Mel got the keg out of the truck and got it set up. I sat in the bed of the truck, waiting for Benny. "Here you go, m'lady." Benny said, handing me a beer, with his own in his other hand. "Why, thank you." I said taking a sip. More people had already shown up. There were at least 200 people around. Some I knew from school and others who I have never seen before in my life and will probably never see again after tonight. Music was already playing by the time we got here. Me and Benny were dancing together while Mel was dancing with some other girls in the bed of the truck with us. I looked over my shoulder and saw Pink, Pickford, Mitch, and Slater walking towards the Moon Tower. "Hey, I'll be back later. I'm gonna got catch up with Pink and the guys." I said. "Okay." Benny jumped down from the truck and took my hand to help me off. "Thanks." I said kissing his cheek and running off towards the Moon Tower.
