Summer of '76

The Date

I woke up the next morning and found a note from Benny saying he'd pick me up at 7:30. I got out of bed and called Pink right away and told him everything. He told me that him, Simone, Don, Shavonne, Slater, and Woods all got caught by the cops out of the football field after the party. The cops even called their coach on them. Pink told me he crumpled up the pledge paper and threw it in the coach's car. I was actually proud of him for sticking up for what he believes. Then they drove to Huston to get Aerosmith tickets. He said he just got back about twenty minutes ago. We said our goodbyes and he went to bed. I went to my bathroom and got ready. I took a shower and brushed my teeth. Then I went over to Jodi's house to tell her about everything that happened. Both her parents were at work. Mitch was still sleeping when I got there at 2:00. I guess their mom busted Mitch sneaking back home at sunrise. Jodi and I hung out for a little while and talked. Shavvone even came over for a bit. I left when Jodi's parents got back home at 5:00. I had to go home and get ready. I got home and did my makeup and my hair. I put on some jeans and a blouse. I looked at the clocked and it was 7:15. I put my shoes on and grabbed my purse and went upstairs to watch out the window for Benny. I saw him pull up and he honked the horn. I went out the front door, locking it, and ran to his truck. "Well don't you look stunning." Benny kissed my cheek. "Why, thank you." Benny backed out of my driveway and drove down the street. "So, what do you have planned for this evening?" I asked. "Well, I thought we could go get something to eat and then go see a movie after." Benny said. "What movie?" Benny stopped at a stop light. "Taxi Driver." Benny said. "Alright." I smiled. We went to Top Notch to just get something quick. WE went inside to eat this time. It was kinda busy, but not too bad. There were a lot of people from school there. I even saw Tony and Sabrina there, eating together inside. After we were both done eating we left and went to the movie theater. The theater was absolutely packed. There was barely any parking in the parking lot. We went in and got our tickets and popcorn. There weren't a lot of people to see Taxi Driver. It had already been our for a couple months. We got out of the theater at about 11:00 and the parking lot was just about empty now. "So, what did you think of the movie?" Benny opened my door for me. "It was pretty good." Benny closed the door and got in the driver side. Benny drove to my house. We pulled into the driveway. "I had a really nice time Benny." I said, moving over to the middle. "Me too." Benny kissed me. We made out for a few minutes. "Do you wanna come inside and hangout?" I asked. "I would but my parents were kinda mad about me not coming home last night and not calling them." Benny said. "Oh, well then I'' see you or talk to ya tomorrow?" I said. "Definitely." "Okay." Then benny and I kissed one last time and I got out of the car and ran to my front door. I got in and closed it behind me. Then I heard Benny drive away. I had to talk to Pink. So, I walked over to his house. His room was in the basement so I didn't go to the front door I went to his window and knocked. I saw that his lights were on. I knocked and I heard him move around, then his curtains opened. He opened his window. "Erin? What are you doing here?" "Benny and I got done with our date and I wanted to talk to you about it and I knew your parents would be asleep so I new not to call." I said. "Okay." Pink took his screen off his window and helped me in. Pink and I talked for hours. "Oh my god. Its already three in the morning." Pink looked at his clock. "I better head home." I said. "No, you're not walking home at this time, it's too dangerous. You can just sleep here and leave after my parents go to work. Like you did our freshman year." Pink said. Pink and I got into bed together. We used to have sleepovers all the time in junior high so it was bring back memories sleeping in Pink's bed again. "So, whats going on with you and Jodi, huh?" I wiggled my eyebrows. "What are you talking about?" Pink played dumb. "Oh don't pull that on me. I went over to Jodi's house earlier today and she told me what happened in the woods at the Moon Tower." I said. "Well, I really like her." Pink said. "What about Simone?" I asked. "I used to really like Simone but now it feels like her and I just aren't clicking anymore. And well Jodi and I, I feel that click again. I just think Simone and I are losing interest." Pink said. "Well, if thats how you feel, just go for it." I said. We both feel asleep not too long after that conversation. I woke up and Pink was still sleeping. So, I, quietly, got up and snuck out the front door. I walked back to my house, got changed, and started cleaning up since my parents were coming back home today.
