The school had called everyone in for a big assembly. The principal walked up to the mic and said that there would be no Saturday classes for everyone. He explained that all of the teachers were so concerned about school safety that he decided it would be best to cancel classes. His decision only made sense for those who never left their houses in the morning, or those who were only attending their classes on the weekends, but it was a difficult decision for the people who were part of the school, who were trying to live a normal life. He was frustrated with his decision, but he was doing the right thing. There was a sense of relief and excitement as everyone was ushered out of the building.

The school was in the middle of the neighborhood, so it was a short walk to get home. Most of the walk to the house was silent, because most of the kids had already left. The kids from my bus went directly to their friends' houses to hang out and share what they'd learned. I stayed behind because my parents were home. When I saw them, I got a hug from my mom and a kiss from my dad, and they asked me if I was okay.My parents wanted to make sure I was safe. If I had gone to school, it would have been so much harder for them to track me down if I had needed to talk to them. I told them I was fine and asked if I could talk to them alone. I told them that I thought it was so silly that we were having an assembly in school. Kids need to be at home, not in school. They said that there had been a number of suspicious incidents in our neighborhood, so they wanted to make sure they were doing everything they could to keep us safe. That incident was so recent that no one had thought to tell us about any recent threats. My parents talked to my sisters about keeping an eye out for anyone who looked suspicious, and they also talked to me about staying close to my sisters and friends when we were outside. I had overheard some of them talking about a boy who was supposed to kill a lot of kids at the school, but I didn't really believe that anything would happen. It was just an overreaction on their part. My parents told me to never forget to be alert, especially if I was in danger.
