~Lexi's P.O.V~
I heard my phone buzz as I was awaking from my slumber. It was a Saturday, my favorite day of the week. I picked up my phone. "Hello?" I croaked into the phone, my voice still heavy with sleep. "Hey Lex! Did I wake you up?? It's already 11:00!" I heard Mason's familiar voice talk through the phone. I felt my mouth drop open as I glanced at my alarm clock. It read 11:03. Dammit. "Shit!" I growled into the phone. "I meant to get an early start and head down to the beach." Today was an unusually sunny day, a rare occupancy in the state of Washington. "Oh...well hey! Why don't we head down to the beach together?" He asked suddenly. I stiffened then reminded myself that I needed to make the most of my time with Mason even though it wasn't the same as it used to be. "Sure." I said, brightening up. "Ok, I'll be there to pick you up in a few minutes." I nodded absentmindedly and hung up the phone. I grabbed my black swim suit and threw it on putting shorts and a tank top over it. I put my hair into a messy bun and ran down the stairs.
Sam and Emily were sitting quietly on the couch watching a movie. I had started to like Emily. I realized that she hadn't wanted Leah to get hurt either and she regretted that but that she couldn't regret meeting Sam.
I heard a honk from outside the house, so I grabbed the keys to our house from the door peg and raced outside, climbing into Masons truck.
"Hey beautiful." He whispered, pulling me into a kiss. "Hey." I said smiling hesitantly as I pulled away. He gave me a confused look but started to drive. I hadn't felt a spark, or butterflies in my stomach. Nothing.
The drive down was filled with an awkward silence. It wasn't usually. We used to always find something or someone to laugh about. Now, that connection was just gone. Vanished. Dissapated. He pulled up in front of the beach and we climbed out of the car. He pulled a chair out from the truck and handed it to me, almost accidentally hitting me in the face with it in the process.
"I'm sorry." He said quietly. I mumbled a "whatever" as I started to walk down the beach, finding a good spot. It was sunny but also had a good patch of shade and it was close to the ocean. "This is the spot you picked?" Mason queried walking up to me with a chair strung over his shoulder. I nodded while sitting down.
"Yeah why?" I questioned him. "Well...it's not very shady and the water soaks our feet." He said with a hint of agitation in his voice. I hid a small growl in my voice. "Then next time why don't you pick it and stop complaining like an 8 year old girl." I mumbled under my breath just loud enough for him to hear but at least he had the sense to keep his mouth shut.
Once we had moved our chairs to a spot completely covered by shade and the ocean was a minute walk away. I pulled on Mason's arm. "Come on! Let's go in the ocean!" I squealed. "No, not right now Lexi." He told me off while texting on his phone. I read the name over his shoulder. Mackenzie- Hey babe, whatcha up
"Why is Mackenzie texting you?" I asked him with a hint of jealousy in my voice. Mackenzie is the most popular girl in school. She's also the bitchiest. "Oh, we started talking at school. She's pretty awesome. Actually is it cool if I leave right now to go meet up with her?" He asked. Was he serious? He was going to blow off our date for some other girl?
"Whatever, Mason. Do what you want." I said annoyed, storming away from him and into the direction of the water. I needed the cooling powers of the sea to calm me down. He shrugged obviously not caring whether or not I was upset.
I dove into a deeper shallow part of the ocean, relishing in the calm coolness the water brought onto my skin. I tried to focus my thoughts onto anything but Mason and this Mackenzie girl but I couldn't. I knew that I couldn't keep Mason forever. There was another, a better one for me. They were my perfect fit. If only I could just find them. Then maybe everything would fall into place.
