      ~Lexi's P.O.V~
Darkness surrounded us as we were walking down the alleyway behind the bookstore. She had explained to me why she came back. It was that she had wanted to see her father again. When I heard that, I had mentally slapped myself for thinking that there was some alternative dark reason for her motives. Then I told myself that I was not wrong for thinking that. Not that Bella would ever intentionally hurt anyone, but that wherever she went, something bad seemed to happen. She was a magnet for trouble.
We were so absorbed in our conversation that we didn't even notice that there were 7 20 year olds or so, quite obviously drunk and stumbling up to us. I broke off from talking as a voice sounded in my ear. "Hey sweetheart. What are you doing here?" The voice drawled in my ear. I shivered and punched in the direction of the voice. My fist connected with what felt like the skin on his face and I felt satisfied when I heard him howl in pain.
Then 2 more came up to me started to get a little too close for my liking. I took them down too and felt more satisfaction in their pain when I looked at my hands. They were shaking. No not now. Not here. Please. I thought, panicking while trying to keep calm.
I glanced over at Bella and saw that 4 of them were trying to get her to strip for them. I snarled under my breath. Creeps! I started towards her, ready to help when a silver Volvo came whizzing out from seemingly nowhere. I jumped back to avoid being run over. The rapists had backed away with their hands in their air. As soon as I saw them a growl so ferocious I didn't know existed, ripped out from my throat at them. They glanced at me, obviously smart enough to realize that I was dangerous.
I turned my attention back to the car as I heard a door slam shut. Then I smelled it before I saw it. It smelled of bleach, but it was also a mix of sweet so strong that it made my nose burn. Vampire. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw the pale beautiful looking man start toward us in brisk elegant strides. I blocked Bella with my body and fixed my gaze on him with an extremely threatening growl. He glanced at me and his gaze widened slightly but then his attention was turned back to the men.
"You mightn't not wanna doooo that." The "leader" slurred. I saw the vampires gaze darken from golden to black. I practically heard the gears click in my mind when I figured it out. A Cullen. Specifically, Edward Cullen. Sam had told me about all of them during the first day of training, I wasn't sure wether to be relieved or angry.
The rapists backed up and ran away. I felt a glimmer of relief before I remembered that there was a bloodsucker here. He glanced at me. "You don't have to worry, I'll get her home safely. You can trust me." He said sincerely. And I realized that I could trust him. With Bella at least, I could tell that they had some kind of connection. "You're not wrong, Alexia." He said quietly. I stared at him in shock. Did I say it out loud? Could he read my mind? "Please, I will take Bella home, you can trust me." I nodded numbly, stepping aside and let Bella stumble toward Edward with a confused look on her face. "What..?" She started to ask but he put a finger to his lips in a "keep quiet" motion. He led her to the car not even soaring me a glance. I felt numb. What had I just done?
I ran in the direction of the woods, took off my clothes and phased. I felt my mind join with Sam. He was in his wolf form too. 'Lexi...?' he questioned, before he saw my thoughts. He snarled when he saw Edward. 'You let her leave with a bloodsucker.'
I growled. 'What the hell could I have done Sam? It was out of my hands, I wouldn't have been able to fight him off and it was in the middle of town. I had no choice!' He sighed in his mind. 'You're right. Hurry home. Paul and Jared have awoken.' At that, he left my mind and I picked up my speed, going almost as fast as I could, racing through the dark trees, the only source of light being the moon which was bright and full.
I had often asked Sam why we weren't like the fictional werewolves that turned every full moon. He never had a direct answer, I could only conclude that he didn't know either.
A couple minutes later, I was trotting towards the house when I realized I had forgotten my clothes. Shit! That was my good shirt. I thought to myself, fuming. Oh well. I thought, and went to the painted tree. I always kept extra clothes there. I phased back into my human form and put my clothes back on. I started towards the house combing through my hair with my fingernails and putting it into a sloppy side braid. Since I had left the key to our house in my shorts I knocked on the door. My fist had barely collided with the decaying wood when the door swung open revealing Sam as he beckoned me inside.
Along with Paul and Jared in the living room, I scented Emily cooking in the kitchen since I hadn't ended up bringing back the food. "Hey..." I said cautiously to Paul and Jared. They half turned their heads and nodded to me before fixating their gaze back on the tv. I shook my head. Boys! I thought, shaking my head.
I turned to Sam. "Do they know everything?" I asked in a low voice. He nodded the walked over to Emily and kissed her. She kissed him back, forgetting about the pan on the stove. Suddenly, flames leaped from the stove. I gasped running forward and grabbing the pan off of the stove. I winced as it burned my hand and quickly threw it onto the counter. Sam and Emily looked at me, shock in their eyes. The flames had died down now that the pan was off of the stove.
"Next time," I growled at them because of the third degree burns on my arm. "Watch the damn pan." I stormed out and up to my room to rinse my hand in cool water. The burns had already started to heal but not very fast.
As I passed them, Paul and Jared turned, looking wide eyed at my burned hand. I sighed at the cool feeling of the water on my hand. I heard someone softly walking up the stairs. I sniffed. Emily! Why is she coming up here?
"Lexi?" She asked softly her eyes soft and sympathetic. "What?" I growled at her brushing past her to my room.
"In sorry." She called after me. I stopped in my tracks. Hardly anyone had ever said that to me. I turned around and faced her. I sighed. "It's okay. It'll heal." I said cautiously. How much did she know?
"I know everything," She said as if reading my mind. "Sam told me." "But I thought that we couldn't tell-" I started. "He could tell me because I'm his imprint." She said.
"Oh, right." I mumbled. "Whatever it's fine." I stated walking back to my room. I glanced down at my hand. The burns had healed and all that was left was a pale pink scar that would disappear in about an hour. Almost as if it had never happened.
