The next time I emerged from my bedroom was when I went downstairs for dinner. Emily, Sam, Paul, and Jared were huddled around the table and stared at me as I grabbed a plate and a seat next to Paul. Blake had left about 2 hours to go home.
"Hi Emily." I said cheerfully. She smiled. "Hello Samuel." I said coldly shifting my gaze to him. He avoided my glare and grabbed a plate of food. Everyone, except Emily, subtly scooted back just a little when I grabbed the knife to cut my chicken. I laughed under my breath at their fear. I'd cooled off hours ago but if I wanted to make an impact, I had to keep up the act.
Of course, I was still angry but not as much as they thought I was. They all glanced down at their plates and started to eat, avoiding my death glare, only adding to my amusement.
When dinner was done, I put my plate in the sink and froze when I heard thunder. But it wasn't thunder. It was the same crackling sound, but it was different. It wasn't a roar, it was the sound of something being hit with extraneous force. And with it, came the smell of vampires.
I turned around to face the rest of them and they were frozen as well, sniffing the air and trying to listen. Only Emily was unfazed and hadn't noticed what had happened. My eyes widened and at once, we ran outside and phased, flashing toward the trees.
We ran faster than we had before, only stopping at the border line and peered through the trees to see the Cullens. They were in an open field, somewhat resembling a baseball field. The blonde one, Rosalie was up to bat and when she hit the ball, Edward leapt up through the air to catch it.
What the hell are they doing? Paul asked in our heads. I shook my head confused. No, it's not just them, I smell others. Sam growled defensively. I sniffed again. He was right, there were more scents on top of the Cullens. Maybe 2 or 3 more vampires. He's right. The scent is coming closer. Suddenly, three vampires broke out of the trees. There were two males and a red headed female.
We growled, flanking up, ready to attack. They looked surprised to see us and immediately hissed at us. Now. Sam said.
That was all we needed. I leaped at the redhead and we wrestled on the ground, me easily slipping out of her arms that were grasped tightly around me. Then, I was knocked aside by the blond male vamp. I stood up again, Jared next to me and we pounced on them together. On the ground, they looked at us and all three ran through the trees.
Sam, Jared, and Paul, took off after them. Wait! Stop! The border! I warned them. Luckily, they stopped right at it, and again, we peered through the trees to see them confront the Cullens. Wait, Why the hell is Bella there? I spoke, noticing the pale brunette for the first time since we'd arrived. Damn it. Sam muttered in our heads.
We both turned away slowly and started to walk towards the house again, heads and tails dropping down. What are you doing? Jared and Paul asked at the same time. We stopped and turned to face them. We can't help her. We cross the border and we pick a fight with those three plus the Cullens. It's in the treaty and if we're in wolf form, they are allowed to attack. Sam informed them.
But she's human. What if she dies. Jared protested. She probably will. But there's nothing we can do to help her now. I said sadly. They sighed but continued to look through the trees. Now, the blond one was looking at Bella curiously while Edward stood, ready to attack at a moments notice, next to her.
Suddenly, his eyes darkened and he flashed his teeth and instantly, the Cullens had jumped in front of her, ready to attack. "Now, now, James," The brunette male had finally spoke. "We said that we wouldn't hunt in their range didn't we?" Although his question was meant to be reaffirming for the blond vampire, James, his tone was more like clarification. "We can still talk. If we all just calm down." Carlisle said cooley, trying to clear the air. I felt the atmosphere struggling to remain calm. Probably a result of Jasper's powers. Then, Edward whispered something to Bella and they both started off toward the car, as the vampires were facing off.
We should get back. Sam commented softly in our heads. I nodded slowly and turned back, again, this time, Paul and Jared following us.
When we returned we phased back and slipped on clothes before walking back inside to see Emily cleaning up the dishes. Sam walked over to kiss her, then took her hand and they got in the car probably heading to the beach.
I switched on the tv and sat on the couch paying attention not to the tv, but as to what we'd just done. Paul and Jared came to sit next to me and we sat in silence, the tv playing non distinct pictures across the scene in the background.
About an hour or so later I smelled blood. In an instant, we leaped up and stood defensively as Sam barged in. But he wasn't the one bleeding. She was. Emily. With three vertical claw marks on her face and unconscious as tears dropped down Sam's face, and we stood there, frozen, like statues.
