+Sam's P.O.V+
What had I done? I'd lost control. The one thing I'd sworn that I would never do to the one person who mattered more to me than life itself. And I'd lost it so easily. Gone. Slipped through my fingers so easily like trying to keep hold of water as you drowned. Tears fell down my eyes as I looked down at my love's half-bloodied face, and unconscious body, and I stared at Lexi, Paul, and Jared as they stared back at me.
----------Flashback-----------
We walked down by the deserted beach, hand in hand. "So what happened?" Emily asked softly.
I looked away, refusing to answer. "Please don't do this, Sam. Tell me. I know you did what you had to. All of you did." Except that we didn't. We could have killed those three almost instantly if we hadn't let them run across the border. But they had. And now a human life would pay for it. Anger bubbled up inside me and I wrenched my hand away and whipped around to face her.
"I DID WHAT I HAD TO!" I screamed frustrated. She stepped back, looking scared as my hands started to shake. I tried to stop it. But it was too late. I felt myself phase and my vision blur as I leaped at her and heard her scream.-----------Present time-----------
~Lexi's P.O.V~
Before my mind made sense of things, I moved the table over as Sam gently set her down on it. I immediately grabbed the disinfectant and poured some on her face trying to be as gentle as possible and grabbed some towels.
"What happened?!" I asked sharply as Paul and Jared steadied Sam and led him to the couch. "I-I lost control. I thought I was fine. And then s-she just-" He broke off and looked to the floor. "Can't we just take her to the hospital?" Paul asked as he took over for me, applying pressure from the towels onto her face.
"No. We do that and they'll fine out exactly what did this and we'll never stop being hunted. Besides, those vampires are in Forks near the hospital and we can't phase over there. This is our best option." I replied to himgrabbing our first aid kit, pulling out a needle and string. "Wait! She opened her eyes." Paul exclaimed. I rushed over to see her.
She started to hyperventilate me grasped my hand. "Have you ever done this before?" Jared asked trying to shield Sam from seeing Emily. My hand stopped as I was about to puncture her skin. "No." I said softly and the room was silent. "But this is her best shot."
Emily gasped as she realized what was happening and I gave her hand to Paul to squeeze. She closed her eyes and braced herself.
Without hesitation, I plunged the needle through her skin and tried to be as gentle as possible, weaving in and out quickly as she screamed and fought. Even Paul was struggling to hold her down as she writhed in pain.
In and out, Lexi, you can do this. I told myself. In and out. I quickly weaved the thread through as fast as possible. Sometime, halfway through, she lost consciousness again and her body went limp. Paul, relieved in not having to hold her down anymore, went to get me more towels from the cabinets to slow her bleeding.
Finally, After half an hour later, I'd finished and put a thick band on the wound and wrapped it in gauze. Jared helped me gently place her on the guest bed in the room across from mine. Then, we cleaned up the supplies and blood off of the table trying to ignore Sam's soft nonstop weeping on the couch.
After everything was cleaned and out away, I collapsed on the couch next to Sam as he buried his face in my shoulder. "What did I do, Lex?" He cried softly as I patted his back. I sighed and looked at Paul and Jared, who were struggling to stay awake. "Hell of a night." I muttered. The next morning, I woke up to the smell of burning. I growled in my head wishing this shit would go away. Just one day. I said to myself. I just need one day where I don't have to put up with these imbeciles. Forcing my eyes open, I pushed myself off of the couch and glared at Paul as he proceeded to burn my kitchen down. While Jared, on the other hand, had his face in my fridge, no doubt eating everything.
Paul smiles cheerfully as he saw my glare. "Welcome to el restaurante de Paul." I glared at him even more before realizing that we were one wolf short. "Where's Sam?" I asked. His smile melted. "He's been by Emily's side all morning. She still hasn't woken up."
"He knows it could take a while right?" He nodded looking back down at his blackened bacon. I sighed and went to open the door as the doorbell sounded.
I grinned as I saw Blake standing at the doorway, holding a single red rose. "Hey." I said happily pulling him in and closing the door behind him.
He smiled then wrinkled his nose, smelling the air. "Paul's cooking." I informed him. "Ah." He commented while trying not to cough. "For you." He murmures in my ear pulling me closer to him and gently placing the rose in my hand. I smiled up at him, our faces inches apart from each other.
"Breakfast is ready!" Paul called from the kitchen, making us jump. I rolled my eyes and grabbed his hand, us walking down the hall together to the kitchen. He sat down at our old, wooden, beaten-up table as I searched for a small vase, eventually finding one and filling it with water.
I placed the flower in it and put the case in the middle of the table, grabbing a plate and a seat next to Blake. Then, held back my vomit as I looked at the burned bacon, eggs, and toast in front of us. "What the hell is wrong with you?" I asked sincerely at both, Paul and Jared, as they stuffed their faces.
I was mainly surprised that they still had abs. I grabbed two cereal bowls down, along with Lucky Charms. "You know, that stuff is unhealthy for you." Paul said, his mouth full. "Well, at least I'll die not eating something that was roasted in the pits of hell." I smiled falsely at him, pouring some into my bowl and passing the box to Blake.
Then, Sam walked into the kitchen and all was silent. "Hey." I commented quietly. "She's awake." He choked out, relief shining in his eyes. I smiled. "What happened?" Blake asked curiously. I quickly explained to him as we went to the guest bedroom to see Emily weakly pushing herself up against the bed frame. She smiled as best she could without wincing in pain at us. Sam walked over to kiss her head and I hugged her.
Suddenly, she flinched away from Sam. "What is that god-awful burning smell?" She asked, scrunching up her nose. The rest of us laughed as Paul pretended to look hurt. And for now, everything was fine. In a perfect world, it would stay that way. But this was reality. And reality sucked.
