~Lexi's P.O.V~
A few days had passed and I was already over Mason, but I couldn't get Blake out of my head. What if he was the one? My imprint? So, all in all, things were shaping up to be a pretty great week. In my world at least. Until I heard it. The howl. I was peacefully sitting on my bed reading a book until I heard Sam calling me. I sighed, set my book on my nightstand and quickly ran down the stairs.
He was probably just calling me to come train and if I didn't hurry, he would make me run 10 miles without a break. My legs ached just at the thought of it. I ran down the stairs and into the woods behind our house, leaving my clothes behind a tree I had marked with white paint.
I ran faster to the howl, trees blurring as passed them. Finally, coming to the clearing, I saw Sam in his wolf form looking very grim. 3 feet from him, lay a white wolf with silver splotches on him and a light gray one.
'Hey bro. I didn't realize you had company.' I spoke to him telepathically. 'The gray one is Paul Lahote. The silver patches one is Jared Cameron. They just phased.' He growled in my mind sounding unsympathetic.
I understood why he was angry. Now there were more people to share the burden that we held on our shoulders. I blinked and softly padded over to Jared as he whimpered, obviously in pain just as I was. When you first phase, you feel as if your body is on fire and like you are about to crumble into ashes at any moment. I sniffed both of them curiously, then laid next to Sam and stared at them, as they whimpered and twitched on the ground, only feet from us.
'Can't we do anything to help them?' I asked Sam, my voice pleading. I hated to see people in pain, especially if it was something that I related to. No one should have to bear this burden on their shoulders.
'No, they have to go through it themselves.' He growled but leaned closer to me as if to comfort me. It didn't work.
We laid there for what seemed like hours but perhaps it was only moments that had passed, when their voices entered our minds.
'Wha-what happened? What's going on?' Jared's confused voice, slicing through my thoughts.
I waited silently as Sam explained to them what had happened. They took it quite well, better than Sam and I at least. Figures. 'Come on, let's go back to our house, you can rest and eat there.' I spoke for the first time to them, as I rose, nosing Paul to his feet, or rather paws, while Sam did the same for Jared. We supported their weight the whole way back to our house, their fatigued bodies leaning on us, their minds barely hanging on to consciousness.
When we got back to the house, I ran back out into the woods and put the clothes back on that I had put behind a tree. As my claws turned back into fingernails and my thoughts became my own again, I raced back to the house.
Quietly opening the door, I saw both boys passed out on the sofa, while it creaked from under their weight. I shook my head. 'At least they put on some clothes.' I thought to myself. I headed to the kitchen, surprised when I saw Sam standing there holding a smoking pan above the stove with second degree burns on his hand.
"Um, Sam?" I questioned. "You uh, you know your hand is kind of on fire right?" I flinched as his head swiveled around to glare at me. "I realize this, I'm trying to figure out a strategy here but I would welcome some help." I rolled my eyes for what seemed like the fiftieth time today, grabbed some oven mitts and hurriedly grabbed the pot from his hands and put it on the stove. Then turned around to face him.
"That was some strategy." I said mockingly as I threw the charred meat into the trash.
I ignored his glare as I tossed the fried pan in the trash too.
"Next time, read the instructions." I told him. He rolled his eyes. "I'll go get some take out. Will you be fine here?" He asked as he grabbed his car keys from the counter and eyed the two unconscious boys on the sofa, suspiciously.
I nodded. "Wait. Actually can I go get the food instead? You never get my order right." I said. I also wanted to go into town. Sam had hardly let me out of the house unless it was for school. He nodded hesitantly and handed me the keys. I closed the door behind me, just barely resisting the urge to shout out, "I'm free!"
I had wanted to go to a bookstore in the town that sold really accurate books about urban legends. I wondered what else was out there, if there were more werewolves and vampires. I started up the car and drove quickly out of the driveway, narrowly missing the mailbox. I'm not the most accurate driver but I most definitely wasn't the worst.
The trees passed me by as I pushed the speed limit on the road. Who the hell actually goes 25 miles per hour. That's at the speed of a turtle. I never liked cars too much either, they felt too confining and I always felt the need to go faster. About 25 minutes of boring highways and playing punch buggy by myself, the city was in view. I parked near an old, rustic, looking restaurant and got out of the car, walking in the direction of the bookstore. I was checking out of the small store when I heard the bell on the door jingle behind me. Their feet making such loud stomps that it sounded like a clumsy elephant wearing high heels. I turned around and my mouth fell open when I saw her.
Bella Swan?!What was she doing here?! As far as I knew, she hasn't been in Forks, Washington for years. We used to be best friends until she and her mother left and didn't come back.
Her gaze widened when it met mine. "Lexi?! What are you doing here?!" She exclaimed her mouth dropping open like mine. "Um, buying books. But why are YOU here?! You haven't been to Forks in years!" I said to her. "Hang on, I'll explain everything. Let me just buy this book real quick and we'll go take a walk." She said as the manager handed her a book, I guess she had ordered and asked them to keep for her. I nodded, then my face paled as I saw the title of the ancient looking book. Quileaute Legends. She pulled out her money and started to walk back over to me. I quickly composed myself but a million questions were buzzing in my mind. Why is she buying that? Does she know about us? How much is she going to find out? But most of all, why, after all this time, had she come back?Haiii,
It's Nightshadow456. You probably couldn't tell because of the stupid new wattpad update that isn't letting me use bold or italicized words. Please let me know in the comments if I'm just being stupid or if they actually took it off. I'm so so sorry about not updating, I've had writers block and I also may have totally forgot about this. It's the weekend, so I'm trying to write a few more chapters so I can upload them because I won't be able to write this next week because I have a stupid freaking writing test thing. So uh yeah.
