Nancy and Robin left and Steve and Y/n headed back down to the Wheeler's basement. Y/n sat back down on the small couch while the three boys sat on the long couch.

Max finished writing her letters and slipped them into envelopes. She could feel eyes burning into the back of her head "I know you guys are staring at me" she muttered. "What sorry?" All three boys looked away. Steve played with a baseball, Dustin pretended to read a magazine, and Lucas grabbed a newspaper.

"You said you needed something?"
"Just hanging out"

"How you think your eyes boring into the back of my head is protecting me from Vecna, I don't know." Max stood up from her seat and walked over to the four. "You can look at me now," She told the boys.

"Thank you, sorry"
"Sorry"
"Sorry"

"For you", Max handed Y/n a letter. "For you" then Dustin "for you" then Steve "and, um, you" then Lucas. "Oh, and, um, give these to Mike, El, and Will" She handed the three letters to Lucas "if you can ever get a hold of them again."

Steve and Dustin opened the envelope "What are you doing? No, don't. That's not for now. Don't open it now." Max instructed. "Don't...okay" Dustin closed the envelope "I'm sorry what is this?"

"It's, um, it's a fail-safe. For after...if things don't work out." Max explained. Y/n gave Steve a nervous look "wait, Woah, Max. Things are gonna work out" Lucas reassured. "No! No, I don't need you to reassure me and tell me it's all gonna work out. Because people have been telling me that my entire life and it's almost never true. It's never true. I mean, of course, this asshole cursed me. Should've seen that one coming." Max sighed deeply.

Max picked up Dustin's walkie-talkie "if we go to east Hawkins, will this reach Pennhurst?" She asked. "Of course, yeah" Dustin replied. "Why are we talking about east Hawkins?" Y/n asked. Max looked at Steve. "No. No. No!" Steve protested. Max gathered her stuff before exiting the wheeler house.

Everyone quickly got up and followed behind the redhead. "Max, Max. Seriously. Seriously, I'm not joking. I'm not driving you anywhere." Steve said as he caught up with the girl.

"If you think I'm going to spend what is likely the last day of my life in the armpit that is Mike Wheeler's basement, you are out of your mind," Max remarked. "Either take me where I need to go or tie me down, which is technically kidnapping of a minor. And if I live to see another day, Steve, I swear to god, I will prosecute." Max said pulling on the car door.

"Open the door." Max ordered "um, no." Steve replied. "I know a good lawyer," Max added. Max and Steve stared at each other before Steve gave in. With a scoff, he pulled out his car keys "Henderson, that super walkie-talkie of yours better reach Pennhurst." Steve said as he unlocked his car.

"This better be fast Mayfield," Steve said as he parked in front of Max's trailer. "Twenty seconds," Max said before going inside her house. Steve looked at Dustin who held his walkie-talkie "that things got batteries in it right?" Dustin looked at Steve before looking away from him "I'm not even gonna answer that question" Steve looked at him for a few seconds before looking away "yes, it has batteries." Dustin retorted. "Yeah, I got it," Steve remarked.

A minute or two Max returned to the car. "Hey, that was longer than 20 seconds" Steve pointed out. "Hey, are you okay?" Y/n asked the redhead as she walked behind Y/n to get in her seat. "I'm fine." She said as she got in. "Did something happen?" Dustin asked. "Can we please just go?" Max replied. She was upset. Steve backed out before driving out of the trailer park.

As Steve drove Max looked out the window. They were approaching the cemetery "turn here." She instructed. "Here?" Dustin asked. Max nodded. Steve turned and drove through the cemetery. "Stop here," Max said. Steve's car came to a halt and Max got out. Lucas quickly got out and followed Max "Max?" He called out. "Lucas, please, just wait in the car" she pleaded.
