After quite some time, I became accustomed to seeing Lucifer almost every day. Selma joined every now and then, but once we met Mazikeen, she usually went shopping or drank wine with her.
I also met Chloe, the detective, once. She was a beautiful woman but held a lot of resentment for some reason. That was a story I felt I would hear in due time.
For the meantime, Lucifer and I planned. Not for the upcoming duel between Michael and him, but because of a different reason. I have been keeping quiet about that part.
Torngasuk did not tell me of a battle between my ex- Nolan and I. But he's been coming around with my mother's enemies. They are not as powerful as Sedna, but I know they are filled with rage.
Nolan, on the other hand, is just a psychopath.
We didn't have much time, as their visits became more frequent and more violent each time. Ever since meeting Lucifer, it felt like we never had much downtime to connect and enjoy each other's presence.
... Not that it really mattered, it has been a few months already and it didn't seem as though Lucifer wanted anything to form between us.
"What are you thinking about annasiak?"
"Who taught you that word?" I froze, completely stunned and curious as to how he learned that word.
"Selma. Do you like that?"
I shrugged, attempting to hide a smile. "You think I'm a beautiful woman?"
"I think you are the most beautiful woman."
I rested my chin on the palm of my hand, looked at him – but didn't want to search for his emotions. I wanted to keep any emotions he felt as a surprise. Whether it be bad or good.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Fire away, Senna."
"Do you believe we are each other's gifts?"
He seemed stunned by the question, but nevertheless answered quickly, "I would hope so."
"I guess we will have to find out in due time."
He smirked, but I felt as though he was hurt and scared. I know I told myself I wouldn't search his feelings – but there's a part of me that's a little jealous of Chloe. I hurt for Lucifer, and I'm scared he's not ready.
In moments, our conversation was interrupted by the caws of Ravens. Like an instant, Nolan crashed through the window of Lucifer's penthouse.
"You imbecile. Are you going to pay for that?" Lucifer growled.
"Never mind that. I came with a surprise, little Devil."
Nolan unsheathed a sword, to which Lucifer's heart stopped in fear.
"A sword?" I asked, curious as to why Lucifer was afraid.
"Not any sword, sweetheart." Nolan was proud, and his scrawny frame stood tall. "The sword to kill any archangel. You can thank my friends here."
"Nolan, are you thinking right now? Do you realize what you can do?" I yelled.
He laughed a little. "Of course. I need you back. This is the only way I can do that."
"And I say no." I said simply. "You realize you need my consent, right? If you kill Lucifer - what happens when I don't want to go with you?"
Nolan was just infuriated. Nothing I say would change his mind.
"Get out. Now." Lucifer boomed with anger, stopping Nolan from saying anything more, and releasing his wings with his devilish face.
"That worked the first time, little Devil. But the fear mongering won't work this time."
Nolan was inching closer, with the archangel blade close to his chest.
Before Lucifer and I could prepare to defend ourselves, the Ravens had Lucifer and I held back by their claws. I started to yell, as Nolan was walking calmly towards Lucifer with a psychopathic smile over his face. As soon as Nolan was close enough, he started to slice his wings. The sound of Lucifer's pain filled my ears.
Nolan got too close and redirected the sword to Lucifer's chest. "Your time has finally come to an end, old man."
I couldn't feel anything, not even fear, not even anyone else's emotions.
"Stop it!" I screamed.
When those words escaped my mouth, a sea of water charged out of my body with a force indescribable. The Ravens were washed out of the penthouse, and Nolan with them.
When I opened my eyes, a glowing woman knelt beside Lucifer's body. She looked towards me, smiled and positioned her hands on his chest. He was obviously concussed and unconscious, but the woman rejuvenated Lucifer with a glowing blue light. "Panek kaigit. Daughter, come here."
It's... my mother.
"Your emotions were so powerful, it summoned me here." She softly spoke. "Nolan cannot get a hold of you. Please, come home. Come to Alaska."
"But... torngasuk told me to protect Lucifer."
"You have time, panik. Follow the northern lights."
With mother's cryptic message, she dissipated into thin air.
