"Could you pass the oil please?" Paul nodded handing the bottle that sat to his right over to her, she smiled at him in thanks and watched as he continued to cut the veggies.
He could feel her eyes on him and made a point not to look in her direction. This was a common night for them nowadays, ever since Paul had worked up the courage to talk to her at beanies the two of them had begun hanging out as friends, soon becoming close friends, ones that hang out at each others places most nights making and having dinner together.
From what he knew and had heard about Emma he knew she was not the relationship type, but he couldn't help but have these feelings about her, wishing with all hope that she somehow felt the same way.
Emma was the prettiest, funniest most genuine person he had ever met in his life and he just- fuck he loved her.
She was small, feisty and in his opinion adorable, he just wished he could call her his.
"Hey, get chopping, those veggies aren't going to cut themselves."
"Oh yeah, sorry, got districted."
"Okay" she looked annoyed but the way she looked at him told him otherwise.
Those brown seas of chocolate stared into his soul sending so much love in his direction, and though he knew he was just making it up in his mind, those eyes full of love meant so much to him.
"Hey what happened to chopping."
Once again he was pulled out of his dream land back into reality by Emma.
"Is everything alright? You can always talk to me if something's bothering you" she added resting an awkward hand on his shoulder.
If only she knew.
He couldn't tell her, what would he say, 'hey I know we kinda agreed to just being friends and whatnot but I really love you and I can't picture my life without you, I think about you all the time and any moment I'm not with you is torture.' it sounds a bit creepy.
After another awkward silence between them he nodded, "yeah, it's nothing though, don't worry about it."
Emma frowned but nodded, "okay, but just remember you can tell me anything."
Silently they continued cooking, the silence deafening.
"You know what there is something bothering me and I'm just going to say it" something within him awoke releasing words without thinking.
"I love you Emma. I always have, and I just really want to be with you like... all the time. And you probably don't feel the same way, but gosh, I just really love you."
"Paul."
That's it, this is the moment he gets his heart broken.
"It's fine, I get it, forget I said anything"
"Paul!" she interrupted, pausing him in his tracks.
"I- like you too. Like a lot, and I really tried not to but I fell for you, you and all your nerdiness."
Paul couldn't believe his luck, the prettiest girl in the world liked him.
He stepped forward so he was standing just in front of her.
He cupped her cheek looking into her eyes, "Is it okay if I kiss you?"
Emma nodded and he leaned down to connect their lips.
It was gentle, soft and sweet. Both of them just taking in the moment.
When they finally pulled back Emma pulled herself into his arms, wrapping hers around his waist.
"I'm so glad you felt the same way" she said with a smile.
Then she went in for the next kiss, this time much more desperate and needy.
Not wanting to break away from the kiss she lifted herself off the ground, trusting Paul to hold her, which he did with much care, delicately holding her up as he just as desperately made out with Emma.
So desperate to hold onto one another they only briefly separated to announce words of love to each other.
But now out of breath they were forced to pull apart.
Paul looked at Emma, smiling with that wide doofus grin of his.
"I love y-" but he couldn't finish his sentence as an annoyingly loud alarm began to go off just overhead.
"Oh shit the food!" Emma cried out running to turn the stove off and place a lid over the burning food.
Paul pushed the pan off the hotplate and looked over at Emma who had a relieved look on her face.
"Sorry about that" he laughed, unsure on what to say.
"It's fine" Emma chuckled, "I mean that's one way to do it, at least we'll never forget this" she laughed.
"Yeah. You know, maybe this is a good thing, did you want to go out for dinner? You know like a date?" He asked, suddenly becoming very nervous.
Emma smiled connecting their lips again quickly.
"That sounds great."
