Mornings

Paul had always been a morning person.

Every morning without fail he'd be up around six to six thirty, eight at the very latest.

While Emma had always been the very opposite. She'd choose to wake up at noon or later everyday if she could.

This always led to a funny arrangement between the two of them.

Emma would often stay up late, finishing off work or just laying around as she scrolled on her phone for many hours.

While Paul would be out like a light by the time ten rolled around.

He tried many times to get her to get a good nights sleep with him, especially on the nights before she would have the opening shift at beanies, but it never worked. She would always toss and turn until she gave up and left to shit around for another couple hours.

She'd always regret it though, as Paul who woke easily before her shook her awake trying to coax her out of bed.

He did so gently, kissing her and gently stroking her arm as he tried to reason with her. It didn't stop her hating him each morning.

On days when she didn't have to get up early Paul was very considerate, as he tip toed around their house, doing everything as quiet as humanly possible.

It wasn't till she fell pregnant that her schedule began to change.

In that time her body needed more sleep than it had previously needed, meaning she began to feel tired earlier than she normally would.

She began falling asleep with Paul and even occasionally waking up around the same time too, often because of morning sickness.

And then after she was born, Emma couldn't just go back to her old way of living as she would have to wake up early in the morning to feed her and look after her; which would mean she often would fall asleep earlier too.

Then as she grew, Emma and Paul in turn woke up every morning to a little human crawling over them prodding her awake excitedly.

She couldn't complain, she loved her life, and her little family; but she'd be lying if she said she loved being woken up insanely early each morning.

In this case she was lucky to have Paul, who didn't mind taking care of her as he let Emma sleep in a little longer, it was just another reason why they worked so well together.

Because what is life without Yin and Yang.
