"Sorry, Susannah, we can't stay." I say, grabbing my phone off of the kitchen island.

"Where are the two of you going?" She asks.

I see Mom give her a light tap on the arm and a sneaky eyebrow raise. "Oh, right!" She quickly adjusts herself and a bright smile appears, "Have fun."

"Wait, where are you going?" Steven asks.

"Mini golf." I say.

"Can I come?" He asks.

"No." The moms say in unison before Jeremiah or I can answer.

We laugh and walk out the front door.

Jere starts the car and backs out of the driveway. He has a hand on my leg the whole drive, even though nobody can see us, but I don't say anything.

"Here we are." He says turning the engine off.

There's a new mini golf place in Cousins called, "If The Shell Fits". It's really cute, all of the balls have little crab or turtle faces on them and the holes have shells painted around them on the ground.

It's the perfect little beach spot.

We get out of the car and walk inside.

"Two for an hour, please." Jeremiah says, handing his card to the worker behind the counter.

"Jere, you don't have to pay for me." I whisper.

"It was my idea to come today, I'll pay. It's fine." He assures.

"Alrighty, basic rules: Each of you get one ball, pick different colors. Clubs are over there, sorted by height. And have fun." The worker hands us a scoresheet and pencil with a smile.

"Thank you." I say, pulling Jeremiah's arm over to the clubs and balls.

He lets out a small laugh and follows along after grabbing his card back from the worker.

"I call turtle." I say very seriously.

He puts his arms up in surrender, "Go for it."

So I do, I grab a green turtle ball. He gets a red crab ball and we walk to the clubs.

We're testing which ones work best for our height. Jeremiah and I find the ones that suit us at about the same time.

He puts his club next to me and laughs at how big it is compared to me.

"Stop it!" I swat his arm playfully.

We walk over to the first hole, "Ladies first." He says with a bow.

"What a gentleman." I mock and set my ball down.

I swing and fall just short of the hole.

"Ooo." He sounds.

"Oh, yeah?" I tease. "Let's see yours."

He swings it and it goes so fast that it hits the edge and rolls just about all the way back. I laugh at how bad that technique was.

"Was that supposed to impress me muscle man?" I kid.

"Depends, did it?" He asks flexing one arm to show off his muscle.

I laugh and walk over to my ball.

"Hole in two!" I smile as it goes in.

Jere squints his eyes at me and hits the ball. It lands fairly close to where mine was the first time. He gets the ball in on his third hit.

We mark our scores and take our balls to the next hole.

We've been playing for just under an hour now, we're on hole 28.

"HOLE IN ONE!" I jump and run over to it.

"Nice job." He laughs and goes to swing his.

"Holy crap! 28 is the magic hole!" I exclaim after he also hits a hole in one.

He walks over with a smile.

We both grab our balls and stand up.

"You mean it?" He asks, close to my face.

"Mean what?" I laugh shyly.

"It's magic?" He asks.

I furrow my eyebrows in question and he starts leaning in.

I find myself starting to lean in but right before we kiss I turn my face and he gets my cheek.

"Rule #2." I whisper.

He pulls back.

"I think our time's up." I say quietly and walk towards the exit.
