V - Cam Cameron

"Officers, thank you. It won't happen again. I can promise you that much." Mom says.

"Tell Mr. Fisher that the chief wants to set up a tea time when he gets into town." An officer adds.

"Absolutely. Sorry again for all the trouble." Just wait, that door is going to close and all of us are getting our asses handed to us..

"How could you guys be so irresponsible?"

"Mom, it wasn't a big deal. All right? Seriously. The cops were just looking to break up the bonfire." Steven walks closer to her.

"Not a big deal?" She scoffs.

"Yes."

"I would say getting picked up by the cops for underage drinking is a pretty big deal, Steven."

Steven starts laughing, the last thing I expected. "Were- were you guys smoking tonight?"

"What?" She pauses, "Keep your voice down Susannah's asleep on the couch!"

Oh shit, she's deflecting.

"I wasn't yelling- wha- what- you were!"

Jeremiah's turn to step forward, "Just so you know Laurel, I didn't drink at all tonight. I was the DD, I swear."

Of course he has to make himself the golden boy in all of this.

"You're the oldest. What the hell's gotten into you?" She presses Conrad. "And when did you leave the house without telling anybody?" Her attention goes to Belly. "And what in the world are you wearing?"

"It's Taylor's. And why am I the only one who's not allowed to go out?" Belly asks.

"It's not that you're not allowed, it's that you should've told us you were going. How'd you even get there?"

"I walked." Belly's answer is quiet, she knows Mom's right.

"Jesus! You know better than to walk that far down the beach alone late at night."

"Can you stop treating me like a kid?" Belly snaps.

"If you want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one." Mom finalizes.

"Then maybe you guys should to." Conrad honestly surprises all of us with that comment, the room goes silent for a minute.

"And what is that supposed to mean?" Mom isn't happy. "I hope you guys realize this night could have ended a lot differently if your family wasn't your family." She enunciates.

"I'm sorry Mom, we're sorry." I say timidly.

She tells us off to bed and we all walk upstairs.

Belly comes into my room with a sack of frozen peas. I smile and scoot over on the bed so she can sit with me.

"I brought these as an apology." She says.

"Apology for what?" I laugh a little.

"When you and that guy started going at it I kinda, got distracted." She drags. I motion her to keep going with my eyebrows, "There was this guy-" I stop her with a squeal.

"No apology needed, but the ice is welcome." I take the peas and put them to the spot on my face that hurts the most. "So, tell me about lover boy." I've totally forgotten about anything Conrad related, any jealousy I had towards Belly is gone, right now she's just my little sister telling me about a boy she met at a party and I love it.

"His name is Sextus- well, Cam- Cameron."

"Sextus Cam Cameron?" I laugh, "Wow he really has it all going on."

"It's Cam." She playfully shoves.

"Okay, so Cam, is he cute?" She nods really fast while failing to contain a smile. I "ooo" and tell her to keep going.
