Chapter 5

Sonic and shadow weren't sitting like that for long after a few minutes passed they didn't waste any time to come get their companions before anyone could say anything tails jumped into sonics arms crying like a child sonic happily hugged back holding the kitsune tightly not wanting to let go he was so happy to see his little brother again he had missed him terribly but it wasn't just sonic that everyone missed omega and rouge also brought shadow in for a hug he wasn't really the one for physical contact but he allowed it he couldn't deny it he also missed them

So he eventually hugged back "please don't leave ever again," tails said loosening his grip on sonic "don't worry little buddy I won't" sonic said wiping the tears from the little kits eyes "yeah same goes for you shadow" rouge said making shadow playfully on the back "right" shadow said he was drained from all of this but he wasn't mad the exact opposite actually without him realizing it a small smile formed on his muzzle "shadow, are you smiling?!" rouge said pulling shadows face towards her to get a better look but at that time the smile was already gone and replaced with an annoyed look "aw don't act all cranky, you know you missed us" rouge said talking to shadow as if he was a baby

"Don't touch me bat, and I didn't miss you keep dreaming!" shadow said smacking rouge's hand away from his face "it does seem that he missed us just look at him" omega chimed in on the teasing "aw don't worry honey we missed you too" rouge said her and omega once again bringing their black counterpart into another warm embrace.

Sonic laughed at the sight of the ultimate life form, 'finally, things could go back to normal I miss everyone and I can't wait to be back home'

Tails helped sonic to the helicopter that GUN had prepared it took a while for them to be home shadow, rouge, and omega had to stay at GUN and report the mission so they couldn't go home right away since there was a delay but sonic and tails were free to go so they made a stop at the doctor sonic still felt a little sick and needed to be bandaged up but nothing too serious

After the stop at the doctor sonic leg was put into a splint and prescribed medicine he had a small flu but it would go away all he cared about right now was going home.

Once sonic stepped through the door the first thing he did was climb into the couch and lay down "sonic you're dirtying the couch" tails said as he watched the blue hedgehog get comfortable tails just sighed he didn't mind much but he knew who was going to end up cleaning it "hey, sonic you hungry?" tails asked "you haven't eaten right? so you must be starving with that big appetite of yours"  "yeah I nearly died from starvation while I was out there, good thing shadow was taking care of me he foul d some wild berries at least I had something in my stomach" sonic said as tails started to cook "seems like you and shadow have are finally getting along" tails said hoping that sonic and shadow finally set their differences aside "no- no we aren't getting along- I mean don't know" sonic said covering his face from the thought of the ebony hedgehog

Tails just laughed at his brother's reaction putting three chili dogs on a plate and sitting next to sonic "here" tails said handing sonic the plate "thanks little buddy" sonic said sitting up and taking the plate and ruffling the little foxes bangs "so what happened?" tails asked full of curiosity "well, how do I start" sonic said taking a bite of his food "well when me and shadow left Eggman attacked and we were caught off guard so we got pushed off a cliff" sonic said taking another bite "then what?!" tails asked filled with curiosity "but it's a good think there was a body of water below us so we didn't get hurt bad" sonic shivered remembering how wet and cold the water was especially wet he hated water "but I got stuck in some rocks so I nearly drowned shadow saved me luckily, to be honest, I thought he'd leave me" sonic smiled and so did tails but he had a more smug looking smile making sonic embarrassed

"Stop looking at me like that!" sonic said blushing uncontrollably "don't mind me keep going," tails said not dropping his smile once "when shadow got my foot out it hurt really bad and was all swollen so I couldn't walk properly, so he let me lean on him while we walked to stable myself, he even built a small little shelter to protect me from the rain and when I got sick he carried me because I was too weak to walk especially since my leg was still injured, and he was surprisingly patient with me" sonic kept going on and on about how well shadows been treating him and tails listened to everything.

Usually, when he was talking about shadow he'd just talk about how mean he was but right now not a single bad thing came from the blue hedgehog lips they were all compliments

Instead of sonic describing him as rude he was now nice instead of him being difficult he was now patient and instead of him being aggressive he was now gentle and instead of sonic frowning as he talked he smiled genuinely happy

"Sonic" tails said earning the attention of his best friend his eyes glistening "sonic, you like shadow!" tails said the little kitsune smiling ear to ear "huh!" sonic said blushing madly him liking that ebony hedgehog seemed impossible to sonic if someone were to tell him that he liked shadow a few days ago he'd think they're crazy but this is happening now

He even noticed how he felt different toward that certain hedgehog and how his heartbeats every time he talks about shadow. Sonic put his hands over his face coming to a realization
