CHAPTER ONE,
myriad of stars in your eyes
THE SOFT SOUNDS OF ECHOSMITH played through Alice Driscoll's earphones. Brown eyes cast a glance around the familiar kitchen of Hackett Quarry's summer camp, the pleasant smell of freshly baked peanut butter cookies etching its way through the air, the scent was enough to turn Alice's normally inhospitable expression into a tender, yet lop-sided, smile. Wiping her, recently washed, hands on one of the many washcloths that inhabited the kitchen counter, the introverted girl made her way to where she had placed cookies while softly humming along with the music whispering into her ears. Blissfully unaware of the other person that had just entered the room. When Jacob slips into the kitchen through the door and sees the brunette a few measly feet away, he can't fight back the mischievous grin that overtakes his features once his eyes land on the humming girl who seemed too preoccupied with the music coming from her headphones to sense the boy.
Instead of tiptoeing out of the kitchen and away from the scene, he does quite the opposite. This situation was far too good to pass up after all. And by the opposite, he means that he saunters inside and swiftly approaches the relaxed kitchen assistant. Jacob didn't think it through, as per usual, as he stalks behind Allie and thrusts his hands out toward the latter's shoulders, taking hold and offering her a warm squeeze.
