I sat up and hit my head on the roof of my shelter. I would have sworn, but I heard voices beside my shelter.

"See, Butch? There's that sound again! It sounds like a person!"

"That's because it probably is a person, you stupid imbicle."

I pulled the knife out from under my makeshift pillow, trying not to make a sound. My heart was pounding. I needed them to go away. They continued looking around, and trying to find me, but luckily, I had a pretty good hiding spot. My hands shook as I held the knife. Soon, I heard some more footsteps coming towards my area.

"Oh, um, hi Mum!" One of the voices said shakily. "What are you doing here?"

"Looking for you two idiots!" A raspy female voice said. "Butch, what have I told you about taking Lloyd out here without my permission?"

"To not do it?" The one named Butch answered.

"Bingo," his mom said. "Come on, Vince needs us back at base ASAP. Direct orders from Akiran."

As they started to walk away, I breathed a sigh of relief. But I guess I wasn't out of earshot yet, because the three people paused and turned around.

"Did you hear that?" Lloyd asked.

The three of them began wildly searching around for me. I crouched in the shadows of my hiding place and prayed that they wouldn't find me. Unfortunately, my luck had run out. Lloyd uncovered my hiding place in no time. When he saw me, he snickered. His wolf ears were shoved forward, and he was obviously very pleased with himself. "Mum, Butch, c'mere! I found a human!"

"Kill it!" Butch shouted. Lloyd snickered and his eyes began to turn black. His fingernails grew at an alarming rate, and soon, he was swiping his claws at me and trying to hit. The space was too small for him to fit, so I was just dodging every blow and shrinking farther into the shadows. But then, I did something that I had never done before.

I growled at him. And it wasn't like a normal, human-sounding growl. I sounded like a wolf when it happened.

Lloyd flinched. "Wha-"

I kicked him in the face as hard as I could. I heard a crunch as his nose broke. "Aaahhhh! Momma!"

His mom came over and pointed her gun at me. Before she got the chance to shoot me, I stabbed her in the calf with my knife. She screamed in pain and collapsed. I scrambled out of my hiding place and ran away from Butch as fast as I could. I didn't have much hope, though, because Alphas could run much faster than humans. Strangely enough, though, I was able to outrun him. I wasn't sure if I was going super fast or he was going super slow, but I was grateful for it either way. Eventually, he caught up to me and pounced. I spun around and stabbed him in the stomach before he could land. He fell on the ground, gasping to take in each breath. "You... little..."

I dashed away before he could finish his sentence. Several AFM patrols had seen me, and they were now trying to chase me down. I wasn't sure where I was running to, but I had to get away from them at all costs. One of the patrol members lept on top of me and pinned me to the ground. Two more Alphas came to help her, one holding my mouth shut and the other pinning my legs to the ground. Without thinking, I bit the one keeping my mouth shut. He ran away from me, his hand gushing blood. I pulled out my knife, stabbed the other two in the backs, and tried to make a quick getaway. Before I ran off, I saw a gun on the belt of one of the Alphas. I snatched it up and turned off the safety.

I ran with the gun for a while, delighted with my new weapon. I stopped to take a breather when I was about 100 feet away from the wall. Just as I was about to keep running, I heard someone sound an alarm. 30 Alphas emerged from the wall, all of them in bullet proof vests and Army helmets. I gulped. I could hardly handle 3 of them, let alone 10 times that many. When they charged at me, however, I felt a rush of adrenaline, and energy surged in my veins. I ran straight at them with no fear whatsoever.
