Destiny and I soon left her house, so we could head to the local art shop. Once we got inside the little store, Destiny's eyes lit up like a child's on Christmas morning. She looked incredibly excited, and I could understand as much. She had always loved to draw. She had loved to be creative and put her imagination down on paper. It was that which made me wish I could see what the world looked like through her eyes. I could imagine that it would be incredible. Then again, just being around Destiny these days had made the world a much brighter and wonderful place. it made me never want to be without her. In fact, I couldn't really imagine a day not spent with Destiny now. She was always there. She was so important to me, and we were inseparable, like the moon and Earth.
"What are you going to draw?" I asked, as Destiny started to place pens and colouring pencils galore into a shopping basket.
"You," she said.
I instantly flushed.
"I knew you'd blush," she teased. The corner of her lips lifted in a smirk. "Honestly, though, I'd like to draw the people and places that are important to me."
"I like that," I said.
Art was always best when it was meaningful, when it was important, when it made you think. Art was made to make the viewer feel something and with that in mind, Destiny was like my favourite portrait.
"I like you," she said. "I don't like the people that hurt you. I'll fight them."
"What would your weapon of choice be?" I asked.
"I don't know, maybe I'd go all Harley Quinn on them with a baseball bat or giant hammer," she said.
I released a soft laugh.
"I can imagine it," I said.
It was Destiny's turn to chuckle.
"Your hero in a harlequin outfit," Destiny said.
"Beats a knight in shining armour, any day of the week," I replied.
Destiny nudged me playfully as she turned down another aisle.
"I think I've got everything I came in for," she said.
"Yeah?" I asked. "Then let's get out of here."
Destiny nodded in agreement, so the two of us made our way over to the cashier so we could pay.
Our cashier looked especially familiar, and it only took me a moment to remember why. His name was Dean! He was the waiter from the restaurant, too.
"Hey, I remember you," I said.
Dean smiled.
"Did Andre ever get in touch with you?" Destiny blurted.
His eyes grew a fraction larger, before he replied.
"Yeah, he did. We're going on a date next week," Dean said quietly.
Destiny smiled this time.
"That's wonderful!" she said. "How come you're working here now?"
"I thought that I'd get two jobs, just to help out with the university funding, you know?" said Dean.
My parents had set aside some money for me to go to university, but I had to work then, too, to afford the value pasta at the local shop. I could understand what Dean was going through.
"That's a good plan," I said.
Dean nodded.
"Is that everything today?" he asked Destiny, after he had finished bagging her items.
"Yep. That's all good," Destiny said, though she appeared to be in deep thought.
I'd have to ask her about what was going through her mind, once the two of us got out of the shop.
"Thank you," I said.
Destiny paid and the two of us made our way out of the shop.
I turned to her. "What's on your mind?" I asked.
She exhaled a deep breath. "I'm just feeling like I was ungrateful. My dad helped with the costs of university and I- I mean- I didn't give him enough credit for that. I feel like a spoiled brat."
I shook my head and brought her into a hug.
"A spoiled brat would never show that kind of empathy or reflection on their own actions," I said, which caused Destiny to chuckle.
"I wish I could help people out," she said.
"You do, Dest. You don't have to do anything special to make people's lives better," I spoke.
Destiny's eyes grew warmer at my words, so they were a stunning ocean blue.
"Thank you, baby," she said.
"Always," I replied.
"Thank you for accepting me," she said, as we began to walk home. "Thank you for trusting me and thank you for being so constant in my life. Things with my dad have calmed down a bit more but I know I can always, always talk to you about anything. You're so appreciated, Scarlet. You don't even have the faintest idea of how much you mean to me-"
I stopped her then, by pressing my lips against hers.
"I'm starting to," I said. "You should know how much you mean to me, too, though."
She always would shine in my life. She was radiant.
"You're the kind of girl people write songs about."
"Would you?" she asked.
We walked through the front door of our house.
"Write songs for you?" I replied.
She responded with a simple nod of her head.
"Yes," I said softly.
Destiny blushed.
"I'm so in love with you," she said. "You're a creative genius."
"I wouldn't go that far-"
"And a humble queen, too," she continued, smiling at me.
I smiled back at her, feeling a comfortable warmth course through my soul.
I reached out to take her hands in mine and squeezed them gently.
"Everything is going to be alright, Dest, and you know how I know this?" I asked her.
She gave a slight shake of her head.
"I know this," I said, touching her cheek gently, "Because we have each other. As long as we have each other, we can do anything."
"As long as you don't forget me," she joked.
"That is never going to happen again," I promised.
