"Congratulations, Destiny," my examiner told me, once we had returned to the test centre. "That was a really good drive! You've passed," she said with a grin.

I did it?

I did it.

Damn.

I was now a qualified driver.

The road needed to make room for me.

I couldn't wait to get back home and tell Scarlet the good news, so I grabbed my certificate and thanked the examiner before I made my way back home.

"Hey!" I called into the quiet house.

A few moments later, Scarlet headed into the hall to meet me.

"Hi. Phil and Lola went out," she informed me.

I nodded.

I was glad my dad had someone to hang out with now.

It was good for him.

He didn't exactly have many friends at work.

"How are you?" she asked.

"I passed!" I said with a smile. "You seem like there's something on your mind, though," I continued. I could tell these things. "What's up?"

"I saw my dad today," she said.

"Oh? How did that go?" I questioned.

Scarlet paused for a moment, before she went on to explain.

"He saw me because my aunt died and she left me some money," she said. "A lot of money."

"Oh wow."

"I thought everyone in my family hated me but...maybe some of them were silently looking out for me," Scarlet said. "Maybe we can use some of it to get this flat?"

I smiled, then.

"It's your money, sweetheart. You don't have to do that," I said.

"I know I don't have to, but I want to," Scarlet told me, with a small smile.

I felt my heart warm in my chest.

"We'll discuss it," I said.

She didn't need to spend her money on me, but it told me once again how selfless she was that she was even suggesting it.

"I want to say something," I spoke again, and Scarlet turned to me with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah?" she asked.

"I'll never leave you alone," I said.

So many people in Scarlet's life had essentially failed her by not showing up. I never wanted her to have to go through that again. She deserved so much better. She was important and she needed to know how much. Until she truly believed it for herself, until she truly loved herself, I would be around to help her out.

The picture of Scarlet on her phone all night at that club popped into my head again.

She never should have been waiting on anyone to show up.

She deserved the best.

I wasn't sure I could be the best, but I could certainly work on it.

"We should order a takeaway," Scarlet suggested, pulling me away from my thoughts.

"Yeah, we should. Not Dani's, though. Last time I ordered from there I had food poisoning for a week," I said.

It wasn't pretty.

Scarlet coughed on a laugh.

"Okay, then. No Dani's," she promised.

I ordered a pizza from a more reliable restaurant and the two of us headed downstairs to sit at the little round table in the kitchen while we waited for it to arrive.

The doorbell soon rang, and I quickly shot up from my seat.

I was incredibly hungry. Thank goodness Scarlet had suggested this.

I practically skipped down the hall and opened the door to the pizza guy and swiftly took the box from him, as he passed it to me.

When I had returned to Scarlet, it was finally time for the two of us to eat.

"We should go to a gallery," Scarlet said.

"We should go. I need some inspiration for my new piece," I said.

I also needed to learn to paint at some point.

Perhaps Scarlet and I could do that together.

"I know how important art is to you...so I thought it would be a cute date," she said.

She was smart. It would be a cute date. I was already excited for it, but more than anything else, I was just excited to spend some time with Scarlet again.

"You are great, you know?" Scarlet asked me then.

It was a random question, but it made me smile all the same.

"You're better," I replied.

Scarlet shook her head, so I reached out to squeeze her hand.

"You must know how amazing you are, right?" I asked her.

"I do try to remember. Having you here to remind me means a lot to me," Scarlet said with a small smile, which I returned.

Scarlet's smiles were infectious. There was just something about the curve of her lips which made me want to smile too, or kiss her, or both. It really depended on the moment.

"I'm glad," I said. "Before we go to the art gallery, do you want to come and buy some more supplies with me? I need some new pencils and a new artbook."

Scarlet nodded. "Yeah. That would be cool. I'd like that," she said.

The art supplies shouldn't be too expensive, either. You could get some nice ones from the art shop just down the road from our house.

Woah. Our?

I supposed the house had become our house now. It was our home, but only for a little while longer until my dad moved out and moved in with Lola, which I was surprisingly beginning to feel okay about. I simply wanted him to be happy, and if Lola made him happy, then that was what mattered the most.
