Preface
We English established our first colony in North America in 1607. Many generations of colonists lived and died here, and, far from the motherland, a spirit of independence took root. When the British Empire demanded unfair taxes in 1765, they protested. When their protests went unheard, they rebelled. In 1776, representatives from all Thirteen Colonies gathered to declare the independence of a brand new nation: the United States of America.
This act not only gave rise to a great nation, but it also gave birth to...her.
