Preface

Without the threat of the Soviet Union to rally the West, the world order began to rapidly change. The French Republic was attempting to reassert itself in the region, eager to depose the United Kingdom as Europe's de facto leader after so many decades of Anglo-American hegemony. The Federal Republic of Germany, in the process of rebuilding after the Cold War, was eager to curry favor with whoever prevailed. Rising Powers in the Far East also began to draw the world's attention. Meanwhile, the United States continued to be distracted by obscure foreign wars, growing domestic dissonance, and its own greatness.

Soon, an ever-increasing sense of doom would descend over the United States—the American Empire, in all but name.
