In spite of all the death he had seen in his life, he hadn't been to many funerals.

That element of mortality was one he had been able to avoid. The concept of saying goodbye. He'd had so few people to say goodbye to over the years, so few people that actually mattered, that now, when he was faced with it once again, he wasn't sure how to act.

It was with a start he realised that the last funeral he had attended was Sarah Rogers', back before the war. He had worn his smartest suit. His Mom had slicked his hair for him. That had been one of the first times he had looked in the mirror and seen an adult staring back at him. Steve had still looked like a kid though.
