True to her word the night before, Katrina's sleep had been restless. What little she had snatched had been plagued by the words and images imprinted into her mind in a candlelit library. Secrets, war, threat and torture. Her Prince captured and driven to the brink of death, for the sake of the safety of his homeland. For the sake of a Princess he had never met.

Her Prince. How curious it was that she had begun to think of him as such.

Perhaps she had begun to do so when he had referred to her as his, and she had realised that she did not dislike it. In fact, each time she recalled those pleasant, almost possessive whispers, a warm fluttering settled upon her being that was utterly unfamiliar but not at all unpleasant. Perhaps that was also why she had found it so difficult to sleep.

When she had at last given up on snatching those fitful minutes of rest some time just before dawn, she had retreated to the sitting room shared between herself and Natasha, knowing there was one question she could receive an answer to when her friend awakened.

In a sense, Natasha's disgust and horror when Kat revealed to her the Prince's truths from the night before were reassuring. Like her Princess, the lady in waiting had known nothing of the ongoing nature of the war against their homeland and Brooklynne. She had been aware that Hydrain were still a distant threat, but had never known of the danger Katrina had been in as a child, until her betrothal. It visibility agitated Natasha, all through breakfast Kat found herself reaching to fold her fingers around her friend's to stop them anxiously fidgeting with the table linens.

"Peace, Nat. James has promised me that we are safe here, you don't need to worry."

"If you think I'm ever letting you out of my sight again-"

"Oh don't." She laughed softly, squeezing her hand, "That bodes terribly for my courtship."

"You're lucky you even made it to the courtship in one piece - think of all the mistakes I've made, Kat. I let you wander off into the woods on the way here, anything could have happened."
