"Guys, heads up - I've got company in the basement."
"What?" Bucky's hand flew to his earpiece at the sound of Kat's voice, his own echoing through the abandoned corridor of the HYDRA base. At least, they had believed it was abandoned.
"Nagel's name was all over these files, I should have known the place was active- Shit-"
"We're on our way." Natasha's voice cut over Kat's report as a gunshot blared over the intercoms, remaining far more level than Bucky's heart rate in that moment. Wordlessly, he looked to where Steve had been guarding the doorway of the room he had been clearing. Something in his gaze must have seemed panicked, because his friend understood immediately. They had to move.
"Hang on-" Another two shots rang out after Kat's words, a heavy exhale following them as Bucky's feet pounded along the concrete hallway. Kat was several floors down, she always gravitated towards the labs, she had promised him she didn't need cover this time- "It's okay, they're down. It was only two, no backup."
