That single, weighted word seemed to hang in the air between them. Katrina could feel the disbelief painting her features as she exhaled a trembling breath.
His face, so blank and expressionless moments ago was now contorted with conflict, his gaze tortured as he stared at her.
"Barnes..." She breathed, unable to think past her bewilderment, her mind and body both so caught up in the rush of adrenaline from fleeing that she couldn't make sense of it. He was letting her go, he wasn't going to stop her.
