Prune, PA Shop & Mart
6:44 P.M.______________________________
Rachel grabbed a loaf of whole wheat bread. She checked the price, her only having $20. She didn't want to go over the limit her parents got her. Well, they weren't her parents, but her foster parents. She considered them her parents, though. She was sent to go get groceries and some things for their trip.
Hailey's mother got back to them this morning when she picked Hailey up, stating that she could go. She just wanted to talk to their mom for further details. Fredrick and Nicolas still had to ask, but they knew their parents would say yes either way.
The only person to ask now was her mom and dad. She knew that they wouldn't care, though.
Rachel walked around the corner and towards the cash register.
"Rachel."
She whipped her head around at the sound of her name. Her body went stiff, seeing no one there. Rachel gulped, anxiety taking over her feelings. "Yeah?" She called out. When there was no response, she walked towards where she heard the voice. Small footsteps were heard on the opposite side of the shelves. Rachel gulped again but decided to follow the sounds of the footsteps.
Even though she knew she shouldn't, Rachel felt comforted in some way. 'This is how white people die in horror movies, Rachel.' She thought to herself.
She slowly walked around the corner and soon came across the hunting section of the store. Furrowing her eyebrows, Rachel began exploring the shelves. Her eyes were drawn to a small, night vision camera. She looked into it, smiling to herself when she saw the inside. These things always caught her interest.
When she looked inside, she gasped. The store turned green, like an original night vision camera, but a small white light shone before her. Rachel bit the inside of her lip and stepped towards it. It didn't feel uncomfortable, but she was unsure if she felt safe. Bringing the goggles down, she frowned when she saw no light or a person standing there.
It intrigued Rachel, making her want to buy it. So, she did.
On her way back to her house, she found herself walking through the woods. She's always liked the woods. The animals and bugs were found to comfort her. So, walking through the woods has never bothered her.
As she was walking, she could hear her feet hit against the grass. Rachel was a peaceful person. It was never obvious, but she was. She may have always been loud, but peace and quiet was what she liked.
Rachel felt the breeze of the woods flow through her hair. She stopped walking to smell that smell of new summer. You know what smell she was smelling. Freshly cut grass, flowers blooming, bonfires.
Everything was fine...Until she heard footstep behind her. Whipping her head around, she sighed with relief when she realized no one was there.
"Rachel."
Now, earlier, Rachel didn't think that someone genuinely said her name. However, she was positive that someone had this time. She felt cold air run down her spine. Slowly turning around, Rachel was met with nothing. The air left her body when she felt someone tap her shoulder. At that very moment, Rachel McAdams has decided that she hated the woods.
Rachel turned back around and walked faster than before. Her feet stomped as she traveled through the woods. Her fingers burned from holding the heavy bag of groceries and the night vision camera. Suddenly, the bag flung out of her hands. Yelping in surprise, Rachel noticed the camera creeping out of the bag.
