wooyoung had never ran as fast as he did to get to the apartment's front door. he arrived just in time to see a burly police officer aggressively shove san against the wall and cuff his wrists together.

"what are you doing?!" wooyoung shouted at them. san was attempting to struggle which only made them use more force – the officer kicking him in the back of the knee to make his legs buckle out from underneath him. wooyoung gasped. "stop it! you're hurting him!" he tried to rush over to help, but the older officer pushed him back.

"don't interfere or we'll arrest you too," the old man snapped.

wooyoung's eyes flicked to san's pained expression, but realized he was helpless to do anything against the armed officers.

"san didn't do anything! you've got to be mistaken!"

the officer ignored him and instead glanced past him into the apartment where yuna's head was peeking around the corner.

"are you choi yuna?"

she looked terrified, her eyes shooting open when the man mentioned her name. wooyoung took a small instinctive step in front of her.

"come on you stupid girl, are you or are you not choi yuna? answer me."

"i-i am..."

"what the fuck do you want with my sister?" san yelled at the officer which resulted in the younger officer's boot in the back of his leg again, this time sending him barrelling to the floor.

"san!" wooyoung and yuna cried in unison.

san grunted as the young officer laughed, the man roughly pulling him back up to his feet.

"she's the kidnapping victim in this case," the other officer finally explained in a reluctant tone, nodding at the teenager. "her parents reported that she had been kidnapped by her older brother and she must be returned to her guardians."

"kidnapped?" yuna's voice went up at least four octaves. "my brother didn't kidnap me!"

"according to the law, he did. you're still a minor and your parents didn't give their permission for him to bring you here. they specifically said that they were afraid your brother might hurt you," the officer huffed. "so we can either take you back to the station the easy way or the hard way."

"yun... just listen to them," sab told her in a strained voice. "...i'll figure something out."

"let's go." the officer motioned at her as the other began to drag san down the hallway.

"san-" wooyoung called out, but the handcuffed man was already too far out of earshot. the old officer took yuna by the arm and dragged her out of the apartment as well. wooyoung began to panic. he could feel his chest begin to tighten. "where are you t-taking them?"

"the goddamn carnival." the old officer declared sarcastically. "where do you think dumbass? the police station."

and just like that the man disappeared... and wooyoung was left alone in san's apartment, heart pounding away in his chest.

wooyoung took the bus to the police station as soon as he could. when he arrived, he rushed up to the receptionist's desk and continuously asked the man sitting there where they were keeping san. the receptionist just rolled his eyes and said to sit down and wait, or else he would have wooyoung thrown out.

so wooyoung went to sit in one of the dingy plastic chairs in the waiting area, hoping desperately for any kind of indication that san was okay. how could his parents have him arrested? and for kidnapping? how did that even make sense? his mind kept racing through the possibilities but he couldn't wrap his head around it.
