wooyoung lost his balance and his body collided with the ice for what seemed like the hundredth time that day.

this time, he broke his fall by jutting out his forearms to hit the slippery surface right before his nose did. a dull pain spread in his arms. even though he was wearing a puffy jacket, he knew that the contact would leave bruises all over his skin.

wooyoung sat up and tried to get himself back up to his feet before his ass froze off. who's idea was this anyways?  he wondered, shaking his head. skating sucks.

finally, wooyoung managed to move off to the side of the rink and plop himself down on an empty bench, stretching out his sore legs. they had been skating for a couple of hours and wooyoung was once again reminded of just how out of shape he actually was. he was both sweaty and freezing cold at the same time.

yeosang noticed him taking a break and glided over to join him. he'd been skating laps around wooyoung all afternoon, but did he ever actually slow down to skate with wooyoung? no. he just went on without him, unlike yunho, who had been holding mingi's hand and helping him learn how to skate the entire time.

"hey wooyoung," yeosang sat right next to him and slipped his arm around wooyoung's shoulder. "tired already?"

already? we've been here hours! "yeah a little bit."

"that's alright, i could use a break as well."

wooyoung appreciated the little bit of heat their proximity brought him as yeosang settled in next to him. they both stared out onto the ice, watching the families and couples skate by and have fun. sometimes these kinds of places made him a little bit sad – all the things he missed out on during his childhood because he was all alone. birthdays, holidays, vacations, even just family dinners. he'd stopped feeling angry about the lost experiences a long time ago, but their absence still left a shadow over the life he lived now.

"wooyoung?"

the lilac-haired boy snapped out of his thoughts when he realized yeosang was speaking to him.

"yeah?"

"don't you think that guy is really weird?"

"huh?" wooyoung was confused, and followed yeosang's line of sight onto the ice, trying to pick out which weird person he was referring to. no one really stood out to him as particularly strange. "which guy?"

"that yunho guy." yeosang nodded straight forward, towards where mingi and yunho were holding hands and skating in circles together. "i mean honestly, who smiles that much? it's creepy right?"

wooyoung frowned. "i thought he was nice. and mingi really seems to like-"

"honestly, mingi's really weird too though," yeosang cut him off. "i mean... didn't you say that he was a stripper or something? you really need better friends wooyoung."

wooyoung sat still, completely dumbfounded. he didn't know what to say. he didn't know what to do. how could yeosang say stuff like that? mingi's a great friend and there's nothing wrong with him being a dancer.

"i don't know," yeosang continued. "if we're going to date, i'm not sure that i like you living with him."

what? wooyoung was having a hard time wrapping his head around the words leaving the blonde's mouth. he doesn't like me living with mingi? is he asking me to move? he couldn't just move out of his dorm. first of all, he had nowhere else to go, and second of all, he didn't want to.

"i can't just move..."

"i feel like you're being difficult." yeosang's voice softened a tiny bit. "i mean, it's reasonable for me to not want you to live with another man, especially if you're going to be my boyfriend."

"boyfriend?" wooyoung definitely wasn't sure about that label. "I don't-"

"yeah boyfriend," he repeated, smiling now and turning so their eyes met. " i just want what's best for you, that's all. i care about you and you need that. i mean, who else honestly cares about you other than me?"

wooyoung froze but his heart was hammering. the organ stung like a sword had been jabbed directly into it. who cares about me other than him? he hated what yeosang had said, but he hated himself more for not sticking up for himself. the anxiety coursed through him, preventing the words he wanted to say from coming out. i have people that care about me... well, i have a mingi at least.

when yeosang leaned in to kiss him, wooyoung didn't pull away even though it made him feel icky. he just let the second pass. maybe he could talk to yeosang about just being friends once he'd gathered more confidence or when they weren't in a public space.

or when he didn't feel like he was about to have a literal heart attack.

a second later, yunho and mingi skated up to their bench and wooyoung couldn't have been more grateful. mingi had a huge smile on his face as he arrived though.

"don't think we didn't see that!" he wiggled his eyebrows in his goofy way, clearly referring to their kiss. "i guess you two had fun today, hm?"

"we did!" yeosang replied for them, giving wooyoung's shoulder a slight squeeze. "wooyoung's a bit tired though, right sweetheart?"

wooyoung flinched at the pet name but managed a tiny smile in front of the other couple. he really didn't want to ruin the mood. "yeah," he wiggled his toes in the skates. "i think i have blisters."

"i'm a little tired too actually," yunho agreed, leaning up close to mingi. "it's tiring trying to keep this klutz on his feet."

"hey! i'm not that bad," mingi pouted softly as yunho laughed. "should we go home? i was thinking we could get hot chocolates on our way back?"

"that sounds perfect," yeosang agreed enthusiastically, then turned back to his skating partner. "what do you say wooyoung?"

wooyoung gave a tiny nod, unable to meet his heavy gaze.

"sounds perfect."
