tw: depression
the last weeks of the semester flew by as students finished assignments and wrote their final tests before heading home for the break.
wooyoung had been in a bit of a daze, like all of his energy had been zapped away. he was half-assing his assignments and not even bothering to study for tests, despite the fact he knew that he might fail some classes. it just didn't seem to matter so much.
instead he just slept. his bed seemed like the only safe place at the moment and so that was where he stayed, managing to only get up when he absolutely needed to.
yeosang had been texting him almost everyday, asking to go out on another date. he was nice again. caring and soft. always asking about wooyoung's day or about his assignments, although he also always managed to steer their conversations back to wooyoung's rooming situation and his dissatisfaction with it.
wooyoung did his best to avoid the texts, as well as the offers to go out again. he knew that he would have to let yeosang down eventually, but with his mental health waning as the winter break approached, all he could manage was the bare minimum of school work and occasionally leaving his bed to make food. i'll just deal with it later, he repeatedly told himself, practicing his expert-level skill of procrastination.
san was still texting him as well but wooyoung only answered him back sporadically or lied and said he was too busy to talk. he hadn't seen san it what seemed like forever, and the lilac-haired boy would be lying if he said that he didn't miss him more every single day. his voice. his laugh. his touch. he made appearances in all of wooyoung's day dreams and at times, wooyoung almost felt as though the dreams were real. it was the only respite he got from his current bout of depression.
but san didn't like him back. and he knew that if they kept texting, he would never be able to get over him. so wooyoung decided to put up a wall between them.
he had to let go.

on the day mingi was packing to go home for the break, wooyoung lay on his bed and listened to him tell stories of christmases past with his family and all of their traditions. it was difficult for him to hear, but wooyoung tried his best to be a good friend and listen anyways. mingi was clearly excited to go home, as anyone with a home to go back to would be.
"...then we always eat the candy canes last and- " mingi's face suddenly fell, and he turned to look at his roommate with eyes full of guilt. "i'm so sorry woo, i've been going on and on about going home for christmas-" mingi visibly winced as he finally realized how insensitive he was being with his ramblings.
as the only person who knew about wooyoung's childhood, mingi was usually very careful to make him feel included and not say too much that would upset him. but he was human, and sometimes he just forgot.
"are you sure you don't want to come with me? it's not too late and my family would love to have you."
wooyoung shook his head no. of course, the prospect of not spending the holidays alone was a nice one, but he didn't want to impose. wooyoung was convinced that he would just be a bother to mingi's family – no matter how much the tall man tried to tell him otherwise.
"it would be fun. my family adore you!" mingi continued trying to persuade him. even though wooyoung had tried to hide it, he had probably noticed his roommates excessive naps and low mood, and was making an effort to make him feel a bit better.
