Qibli shot him a surprised smile, his eyebrows raised high.
"So, you DO like me."
Winter coughed violently on the breath he'd just taken, gripping his snout closed.
"What fantasy are you having now?"
------
Chattering halted as Tsunami returned, and her through her presence alone, she commanded the room to be silent.
Silent enough for Winter to hear the calm breaths Qibli took. They helped to calm his own nerves, too.
Tsunami suggested they began by familiarizing themselves all with one another, and she began by introducing herself as the Head of school. Afterwords, conversation bounced around the room as every dragon spoke about themselves.
Qibli spoke passionately about his course of learning and his intentions to return to Queen Thorn as fast as he could. Winter and he enjoyed a brief and light-hearted banter when a smirking Qibli informed the group how despite not being Queen Thorns nephew, he was still important in protecting her throne.
Tsunami rolled her eyes, no doubt thinking how clearly of a mistake it was to put the two of them together.
As Umber, a social Mudwing, introduced himself, Qibli and Winter ignored his jealous glances and whispered among themselves.
"Tsunami is head of school." Qibli whispered sing-song-like, with obvious implications for Winter to request his long-awaited room change.
Winter sat up slightly. Qibli was (unsurprisingly) right. Tsunami was the dragon he'd been looking for. The dragon Winter believed would finally put an end to his 'problem'.
But Winter couldn't muster up the anger and resolute feeling he'd had yesterday.
Even with Tsunami's full attention on him as Winter introduced himself, he said what he deemed necessary and moved on, allowing the conversation once more to be dominated by the rambunctious Seawing.
Qibli shot him a surprised smile, his eyebrows raised high.
"So, you DO like me."
Winter coughed violently on the breath he'd just taken, gripping his snout closed.
WHAT?
The rest of the dragons glanced at him suspiciously. Except Qibli who'd just barely hid his sly and mischievous expression.
How does he know? What does he think?
"What?" Winter snapped to the staring dragons,"Can't a dragon cough anymore?"
Tsunami shrugged and continued her speech.
Internally, Winter panicked and struggled to find a more adequate response for Qibli.
"What fantasy are you having now?" Winter asked quietly to Qibli, shooting him a strict side-glance.
Qibli looked taken aback Winter's harsh reaction, "I couldn't help but notice how you just had the perfect opening to ask for a room change, and you didn't take it." he justified smugly
Winter shut his eyes and took a deep breath. It was only him who had interpreted Qibli's words to mean something more. Strangely, he was more disappointed than he thought he'd be. Would he have been happy if Qibli had said he wanted to end their fake-dating scheme and begin ACTUALLY dating?
Winter turned back to Qibli, "It wouldn't have changed anything if I did. You'd still find a way to bother me."
"True."
