"Some meeting, right? What were your thoughts on it?" Winter asked, hoping to coax Qibli into saying more to him
"Yeah. It was interesting, to be sure." the dragon instead responded lamely
Winter narrowed his eyes at the half-hearted answer.
"Indeed. I particularly enjoyed when they talked about very obvious and very suspicious Sandwings."
"Yeah, that was my favorite part too -" Qibli halted, dazed as he processed the words and flipped back to Winter, guiltily. "They didn't really talk about that did they?"
Winter brazenly smirked triumphantly, "No. But it did prove a point."
-------
Winter awoke the next morning, his usual disdain relenting as the memory from the night before returned to him. His worries about Moon and the explosion seeming ever so slightly less significant than they had yesterday.
He even discovered that he found him looking forward to the day.
He instinctively looked to Qibli's bed to find it, as usual for this time, empty. Nothing but a cold pile of sand without his warmth.
Winter stared, too impatient to wait, he decided to take the initiative and find Qibli. Luckily, it wouldn't be too hard - few other dragons were awake at such an offensive and undragonly early hour.
Qibli had his wings bent away as he steadied water-logged wings away from himself, returning from his morning flight moments before Winter had spotted him.
When Winter approached Qibli, his eyes flickered to glance at him distractedly before returning and stayed locked on him wondrously. His jawline framed by miniscule water droplets as he greeted Winter enthusiastically,
"Hey!" he called unfurling one of his wide wings to invite Winter into his embrace
Winter colored as he lightly approached the Sandwing, accepting his invitation. He briefly wondered, even worried, that Qibli would act differently now that they were officially together but was pleasantly surprised that he remained the same as ever.
"Hey." Winter replied, greeting him with his own uncharacteristically dopey smile as he leaned into their embrace, only to immediately repulse back, temporarily disgruntled that he was wet before sighing grudgingly. He shook his head in mock disapproval at Qibli.
"Why you went flying in the rain is beyond me. Sometimes I'm utterly shocked when I remember that you're a Sandwing."
Qibli snorted, grinning. His eyes glinting with mischief as he daintily retorted, "It isn't like my morning patrols flying around Scorpion Den or the Sandwing palace, but it's the best I've got. You don't get to guard Queen Thorn by being afraid of a little rain."
Winter rolled his eyes affectionately as Qibli winked at him.
"Is that all you've got going for you?" Winter teased
"Yup," he grinned back cheerily before squinting his eyes in exaggerated contemplation, "That and the fact that my boyfriend is also Queen Glacier's nephew. No big deal, though. I'm not surprised that you didn't know. He keeps that pretty on the downlow." he reached to brush his wings against Winter
"Get your own bragging rights," Winter drawled, speeding up, "Maybe if you keep at it, you'll make it big in your comedic career."
Qibli rushed beside him, humming, "You can't hate a guy for dreaming."
By the time the duo had returned to the central hallway there was, as expected, a scene of grumbling, groggy dragons bustling about. Many of them lugging their heavy tails, their lids bleary with exhaustion. It seemed the only dragon happy to be awake at this hour was Qibli, who hummed a steady tempo to himself, just being himself unapologetically. His alert eyes darting about to the dragons observing them before he stared off blankly.
